Why GPs limiting consultations to 25 a day is better for everyone including & most importantly the patients This needs to be standard practice in the UK HGV drivers / pilots / train drivers etc have safe limits Doctors not so… @wesstreeting @SKinnock @DHSCgovuk @NHSEngland
My new post on why we need to limit GP work hours (and the rest of us) sluggerotoole.com/2025/07/21/why… @AlanStout19 @katie @BMA_NI @BMANI_GP @kiityc
You can bet the med reg, anaesthetist, ortho, paeds etc. being assigned extra duties here haven't been consulted about it. This is what happens. Management decide they won't pay to fill a gap, consultants decide who should pick up the pieces (not them) and juniors get f*cked.
repost from Reddit. A Trust in the U.K. tonight, without any strikes taking place. @wesstreeting @ShaunLintern @SkyNews @LBCNews
Wes Streeting seems to be under the illusion that this isn’t a pay dispute. Doctors voted to strike to restore our pay, after a 21% real terms cut since 2008. He’s offered nothing meaningful. We’ve been clear: move a doctor from £18.62/hr to £22.67/hr - not even all at once.…
At today's RDC meeting, we’ve voted to go ahead with strike action. Last week when we met @wesstreeting we were open to finding solutions to restore pay and improve working conditions. Today, we still do not have a credible offer on the table @Melissa_S_Ryan @RossNieuwoudt
1/2 THIS👇🏼 With respect to Prof Leng, triage is only about priority/urgency of need for care. Not diagnosis‼️ I see patients w/ all manner of problems who’ve been ‘triaged’ at the front desk. What’s written down then frequently has little bearing on the diagnosis & outcome.
Triage sets a priority level to determine the urgency for initial assessment of undifferentiated patients Patients remain undifferentiated untill they are assigned a diagnosis. Triaged patients are still undifferentiated. They literally could have anything wrong with them.
This is why @wesstreeting wants to flood the NHS with medically unqualified, unregulated ACPs . To replace Drs on drs Rotas YES , I said unregulated, @nmcnews @The_HCPC etc don’t regulate ACPs practising medicine .
Hang on isn’t credentialed ACP highest equivalency at “ST3 level” according to @RCollEM tiers ? Are ST3s now Senior decision makers? So what is a ED consultant? Lead supervisor chief decision maker 😂
This can never be justified, infact it's a scandal. The whole debacle is a complete and utter mess, created by the pen pushing pro PA enablers. Adding insult to injury, PA'S have just 2yrs training. @wesstreeting @guardian @openDemocracy @GoodMorningITV
@ProfKarolSikora doctors are paid £18ph Physician assistants are paid £24ph Is this fair ? Should Drs be paid less than their assistants who haven’t studied medicine and can’t even prescribe paracetamol or request an X-ray ?
What is the difference between PA and ACP? Why are they getting paid more than actual doctors, if the NHS is so underfunded as it is? It makes no sense.
I have some sympathy with them. But remember none of them have spoken out against the illegal behaviour, cover ups, academic malpractice and data manipulation, and things like the Alder Hey child abuse scandal. Every time I feel bad for them I remember these things.
I think for individual PAs the situation is really hard, and they deserve some sympathy. I also feel for the patients harmed, some no longer with us, and some unaware. That said, PAs should look to sue universities and/or the NHS, and that has always been my stance.
This morning a senior PA lecturer has said he has reported me to the GMC for misinformation. I was also called a troll. Happy to correct any misinformation but he wasn’t able to specify. Instead he deleted his FB account. I’m a dr concerned about pt safety. That’s it.
I must’ve missed this @ExplosiveEnema2 What ?!!!
A further case study, this time from St George's Here they don't even try to be discreet, boldly titling the case study "Substitution of PAs at St George's" 8/n
1/n I want to say something about PAs. I don’t know yet if this will be long or short cause I am not psychic. What I do know is this: the situation has become a mess. Not just administratively. Not just professionally. But emotionally. And it’s going to leave scars.
Lots of HEE money for ACPs, also posts often funded from centrally held budgets, or nursing budget, rather than medical budget within an ED. advanced-practice.hee.nhs.uk/implementing-a….
Hugely insightful information into the funding from HEE for ACPs. Training courses are fully funded for 3 years with a nice extra 'Supervisor Fee' for supervisors of Trainee ACPs, which is also an expected requirement of becoming a fully qualified ACP, so another pyramid scheme

'I thought I was seeing a @rcgp GP not a physician associate: a week later I was in A&E'. #DanielHarris said he was given just 20 minutes to live when he arrived at an @NHSEngland A&E after being misdiagnosed twice by physician associates inews.co.uk/news/thought-s… via…
Gp practice: PA ‘ Hi I’m a PA ,how can I help ‘ PT: A PA ? I asked to see a GP and I’ve heard that PAs can’t diagnose PA: I reject that guidance by NHSE PT : I want to see a GP PA: there aren’t any available, you’ll have to come back tomorrow PT: I’m in pain PA: sorry
‼️ PATIENTS OF THE U.K. ‼️ Do not allow yourself to be diagnosed by a physician assistant Do not allow your GP surgery to assign one to you In A&E do not allow a PA to take a history , do a physical examination and diagnose you ASK FOR A MEDICALLY QUALIFIED DOCTOR INSTEAD
If someone replaces a pilot and hasnt done any pilot training, then states they’re actually doing the same thing as the pilot but offering a different perspective… Are you getting on that plane? Are you getting your family on that plane?
#askforadoctor RCGP Reg Chair Why do people think they have a right to career progression which involves plating doctor without going to medical school. Medicine is about patients not ones good given right to career progression
We don't agree with Leng. 'The review is unable to substantiate a legitimate patient safety concern..really. I'll do it for you, my friends delayed cancer treatment because of a PA'S misdiagnosis. umaps.org.uk/preliminary-ad…
