Burnt Toast
@Burnt2020
Very good thread on medical leadership in the UK. We cannot trust organisations like @RCPhysicians and @gmcuk while the people who created this mess remain in charge. But doctors need to start fighting and recognise their worth and stop being so supine.
I want to talk about the themes of leadership explored in the Leng Report. Prof Leng herself is well used to leadership roles, and has extensive training in and knowledge of good leadership in health systems, so these are valuable insights 1/
Right now @RCPhysicians leaders are attempting to remove @parthaskar from his elected position and remove his FRCP because he whistleblew about patient safety issues caused by the PA project. These people must not be allowed to have anything to do with the future of PAs.
PAs and AAs deserve clear career progression. The Review recommends: • developing an advanced role • further training and credentialing—aligned with Royal Colleges. • New faculties, hosted by royal colleges to ensure professional leadership, accountability and standards
What a ridiculous thing to publish. If this is representative of PAs then doctors need to protect themselves and simply refuse to teach, train, and supervise these people. This is not a relationship they need nor should try to salvage. You cannot work with people like this.
This is @UMAPsUK formal response to @lengreview “At present we believe @TheBMA is the biggest threat to patient safety in Britain” Is this the opinion of all associates or just a tantrum from from an appalling leader who’s made things worse at every step?
Children are dying of measles in the US and UK. Vaccination protects them and these deaths are preventable. Journalists, editors and publishers who continually platform antivaccine campaigners have blood on their hands
Appalled to see the Telegraph giving Aseem Malhotra a platform today. He has spread increasingly dangerous vaccine misinformation with impunity. @gmcuk’s failure to remove him from the register is every bit as appalling. A spineless dereliction of duty.
Replacing doctors with PAs is a huge safety issue. Hoping to help the government defeat residents who are simply campaigning for fair treatment, and to be paid more than their assistants whom they have to take responsibility for shows why DHSC were so keen to enable PAs.
If only there was a group of medical professionals that hadnt been mercilessly bullied from the NHS to make the strikes hurt more who could help maintain safety alongside consultants whilst strike action takes place so that this animosity/risk doesnt have to occur and talks can…
This is disturbing I hear there are PAs who are critical of Nash & his @UMAPsUK NEC who have supposedly infiltrated every PA group & silenced any PA voices critical of them🥺 They feel Nash doesn’t represent them, but has been given voice on national stage due to his“links” 1/n
I’d like to talk a bit about the Leng Report, and thank Prof Leng and her team. It’s quite extensive, and addresses various parts of the MAPs issue, so I wanted to discuss various parts in isolation than go through it chronologically. But, please do also read the report. 1/
I agree with this. The people responsible for misleading PAs, placing patients at risk, and creating this mess are still here. They are still in positions of power. Many have been promoted. No reflection, no consequences. Things need to change. Most PAs are victims not villains
1/n I want to say something about PAs. I don’t know yet if this will be long or short cause I am not psychic. What I do know is this: the situation has become a mess. Not just administratively. Not just professionally. But emotionally. And it’s going to leave scars.
Obviously if you own a company designed to profit from PAs this is exactly what you would want people to believe. Presumably at the start of her talk she must have stated this huge financial COI? She should have also declared it to the people organising this event. Did she?
This is Jeannie Watkins doing The PA on the radio is literally parroting off Jeanie ‘We teach you medicine… in 2 years’ Genuinely - a national inquiry is needed NOW @wesstreeting
If u r a RD working in a team with one of these Consultants& u see a Physician Assistant (whom they r very friendly with) working out of the remit of their scope &putting pt at significant risk& u had to step in to protect pt. Will u feel confident to raise it with Consultant?
List of Councillors on website Atleast 50% of them have voted to rescind his FRCP bcoz they want to punish a whistleblower advocating for patient safety Given @RCPhysicians lack Transparency they will not release voting records Most of them still work clinically with patients🚩
There are no good reasons why @RCPhysicians should not release all of this information and everything to do with the investigation. But they won't because they lack basic honesty and integrity.

Very well said. Once it became clear what was happening with the UK PA project it had to be stopped. The people who facilitated this cast aside their professionalism and integrity. The EGM was a disgrace, yet many of that leadership group remain in place. They should all resign
Wow- this has been what we have been arguing for for the last couple of years, placing patient safety first. There is no place for individuals with no medical training (PAs) to be seeing unselected, acutely unwell patients, or delivering medical advice for on call quarternary…
A good day to highlight this. There will be AA/PAs who could make good doctors. There is a very well-established and successful pathway to enable them to do this. @itsdoctormighty and others have gone through this and are offering free mentorship to those who are interested
Pls RT: If you are a PA or PA student wanting to apply to medicine, feel free to leave your details here to be added to an online mentorship group ran by myself and other PAs who have gone on to study medicine: forms.gle/VS9HBP4NZmsKS7… pls share among networks
The review didn't even come close to examining evidence in substantive depth - hundreds of identifiable cases of harm ignored and not acknowledged, no acknowledgement of unlawful activity revealed at multiple NHS sites in relation to prescribing/radiation. If anything, the…
1/ Now the embargo has lifted, I’ve had time to read the @lengreview in full. While some celebrate minor cosmetic wins, I see the formal entrenchment of a parallel, underqualified medical workforce — built without medical training.
The managers at this trust are lying. Cerner can record the title and qualifications of every staff member logging in to their system. I used it for over a decade and every login was tracked, with every single entry I made signed with my qualifications.
Can anyone confirm that a Trust is using a system where they cannot audit who is entering things into pt records? Doesn’t this defeat the purpose of having EPR ?
It's always weird to see these bizarre claims that the committee is "hard left" or "corbynistas". This is a wave of young people aged typically between 23-35 who see Broken Britain for what it is. Raising rent, raising house prices, raising energy prices, raising leisure…
Every member and fellow of @RCPhysicians needs to be aware of this. The organisation is corrupt and its leadership utterly pathetic. It is a lost cause, and members of council should be utterly ashamed to be associated with these people.
FINALLY- Decision @RCPhysicians investigation Removal from the Council of an elected member Barring standing for elections 12 months By a panel which is unknown - with zero right to reply. (To be ratified by Council on 15/7) For exposing chicanery around PAs by senior…
Hi Clare 👋 Why are you lying? Just last year you argue against scope of practice for PAs Source: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pro… Timestamp 10mins 10s
