Resident Doctors
@BMAResidents
We represent resident doctors across the UK - @TheBMA
At today's RDC meeting, we’ve voted to go ahead with strike action. Last week when we met @wesstreeting we were open to finding solutions to restore pay and improve working conditions. Today, we still do not have a credible offer on the table @Melissa_S_Ryan @RossNieuwoudt
📢Strike action for resident doctors in England starts Friday (25th July) 📍All picket lines are up on @strike_map 💪Plan your day and share with friends, family and colleagues - we need everyone to show their support for #PayRestoration #DoctorsStrike strikemap.org

We've written to NHS England with concerns about inadequate planning ahead of possible strike action later this week. Attempts to run non-urgent services with fewer doctors risk patient safety. It's imperative that Trusts postpone work to protect urgent and emergency care.

Today’s talks with the Health Secretary were constructive, and we believe there’s a window of opportunity - albeit small - in which the Government can put forward a strong enough proposal to prevent strikes. Full statement: bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent…

Tomorrow, we meet with @wesstreeting All we're asking for is a clear path to #PayRestoration Industrial action is our last resort. There's still time for the Government to do what's right and avert these strikes before it's too late. bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/…
9 out of 10 doctors voted for IA if we need to. But we shouldn’t need to. 28.9% is misleading: - counts an uplift not yet received - much lost to inflation - the Tories gave almost half Reality: our pay is 21% down on 2008 levels. Let’s hope our talks are productive.
The Health Secretary Wes Streeting says he's 'pleased' the BMA have agreed to his offer of talks to try and avert strike action. 'If strikes go ahead everyone loses: Doctors lose, the NHS loses, patients lose, and the public loses,' said Streeting.

“All we are seeking is a reversal of pay cuts. We want that to be relatively speedy and we want that to be a reasonable journey, just like @wesstreeting promised us last year.” @ERunswickBMA speaks to @LBC about resident doctors’ pay dispute with government👇
“Our committee is on standby to consider any credible proposals you make.” Co-chairs @Melissa_S_Ryan and @RossNieuwoudt have written to @wesstreeting saying there is still time to present a credible offer and call off the strike.

"Our expectation was that the [22%] would be the start of a journey that would keep us going until we’d reached the value we had in 2008. So, clearly, the return of value has stopped and now it’s just marching on the spot. And we need to carry on that journey." BMA council chair…

Following yesterday’s strike ballot result, we met with @wesstreeting It’s clear: the Government is refusing to negotiate on pay. We are now preparing for a full 5 day walk-out, beginning on Friday 25 July. Our door will always be open to constructive talks. #PayRestoration

No doctor today is worth less than they were 17 years ago, as @Melissa_S_Ryan has told Newsnight. That’s why resident doctors in England have voted for industrial action. There’s still time for the Government to listen and avert the strikes.
