This table shows an hourly pay for doctors and #physicianassociates Doctors only start to out earn a PA by 5th year post graduation IF they progress through their career without any breaks, but around 80% of doctors do FY3. So in reality, most only start to out earn PA in PGY 6

.@Melissa_S_Ryan from @BMAResidents explains the govt is refusing to make an offer on pay, refusing to make on offer on pay restoration & refusing to make an offer on a non pay package Thats why resident doctors are being forced to go on strike. Solidarity with resident doctors.
It won't be long before orthopaedic registrars will be required to do ED shifts

"rates could not be escalated because it was a known gap" What?!

At today's RDC meeting, we’ve voted to go ahead with strike action. Last week when we met @wesstreeting we were open to finding solutions to restore pay and improve working conditions. Today, we still do not have a credible offer on the table @Melissa_S_Ryan @RossNieuwoudt
1/ Kate Matharu, a GP of 25 years, told The Guardian that resident doctors striking “harms patients” and that people who put finances first “shouldn’t be in the profession.” We should talk about why this perspective is deeply flawed.

Meanwhile in the UK... On my AO Advanced course in Toronto, I remember the surprise when I told one of the final year resident applying for their trauma fellowship how I was post grad year 10...with a couple more years still to go 😂
There is no reason for 90% of residents to do fellowships. Most of you are not going to do super complex stuff. Residencies need to do better in training ready, competent surgeons to enter practice. You can learn a lot in 5 years. @OrthoCurryMD @FixnBones
wow, I have been banging on about this for 3 years. This is very positive news. theguardian.com/politics/2025/…
Credit where credit is due. No undifferentiated patients. Scopes set by Royal College experts. Progression through medical school. Post graduate medical education review around the corner. Well done @wesstreeting!
Physician associates who assist doctors in GP surgeries and hospitals will now be known as assistants. Health Secretary Wes Streeting says this "better describes the role that they do". Read more ➡️ trib.al/aKsx2Nx
Leng review did not go far enough, but I agree that Physician Assistants should assist doctors, not replace them.
UPDATE: Health and Social Care Secretary @WesStreeting confirms all recommendations of the @LengReview on physician and anaesthesia associates will be accepted. "PAs should assist doctors, but they should never be used to replace doctors." More details: gov.uk/government/new…
The Leng Review has shown itself to be a sham. Doctors concerns have been ignored. This report is nothing less than an unmitigated disaster and demonstrates the contempt Gov has for the public. There's plenty of money for our assistants but not for us. #AskForADoctor
1/2. Too many doctors assume the government is committed to the NHS in its traditional form. It isn’t. The government would like nothing more to remove doctors from the equation entirely. But, of course, they’re not stupid enough to say so openly. Consequently the government
The Leng Review exposes “catastrophic failures in NHS leadership” but fails to fully protect patients, says BMA bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent… via @TheBMA
"Somehow" this review made things way better for PAs and AAs. Resident doctors - fight for your career, fight for your pay, and fight for better working conditions! Resident Doctors - STRIKE HARD.
Excellent thread. There is going to be faster scope creep. @TheBMA @BMAResidents should oppose this review results straight out. @doctor_katie @ERunswickBMA @Melissa_S_Ryan @trentconsultant @helennry7 @ShanuDatta4 @thomasdolphin
There will be a time when an advanced physician assistant will be on Band 9, earning the same as a medical consultant, but without going to medical school. What is happening?!
8/ The financial logic here is absurd. Two-year supervised training, enhanced oversight, + higher pay bands - all while refusing full pay restoration for doctors who trained 10+ years. It’s cheaper only if you don’t value safety.
I genuinely feel disgusted by this.

Why does a FY1 doctor get paid less than a year one Physician associate? Strike hard.
1. Shaming doctors for doing literally anything nice for themselves that costs money (Going to a restaurant etc) 2. Paying doctors £17/hour
What's one thing that's normal in the UK but weird everywhere else?
