3/n... so I revised the BMA "pay erosion" table, by using RPI figures from the beginning of financial year, not RPI from the beginning of the next financial year. In my opinion, this make our pay erosino based on known figures, not predicted ones.
There are so many doctors like me who can't progress because of artificial training bottlenecks NHSE wants to fill the bucket more with medical students, but isn't fixing the leak of everyone leaving. Who's going to train them? The UK is Australia's biggest medical school
You can’t keep pumping medical students into a system with a huge bottleneck problem. Thousands of doctors are struggling to get into foundation and specialty training every year. Fix the leaks before turning on the tap or more doctors will be driven out of the profession.
Northern doctors sent a clear message today that no doctor is worth less than a doctor in 2008 The power to end these strikes lies squarely with @wesstreeting - he must make a meaningful offer to reverse our pay erosion and continue the journey to fair pay #DoctorsStrike
We know why Wes Streeting refuses to negotiate with Doctors. He wants the strikes to go ahead, so he can blame doctors for his failures as health secretary.
It's because the resident doctors are striking obviously. We're all in training, so services shouldn't really be depending on us at all should they?
repost from Reddit. A Trust in the U.K. tonight, without any strikes taking place. @wesstreeting @ShaunLintern @SkyNews @LBCNews
🚨 Amongst a sea of admittedly normally bollocks, this is the most important tweet I’ve ever done. Leng has effectively recommended Advanced PAs are placed (at least) on band 7, but specified they cannot diagnose. These roles will clearly be subordinate to FY1 doctors not just…
. @wesstreeting I am a British born, British trained doctor. I was the most senior doctor overnight over the weekend. My USA exams are complete. My colleagues and I will be leaving, unless doctors get full pay restoration. £22/ hour for a FY1 doctor and we can end the strike.
Why does a FY1 doctor get paid less than a year one Physician associate? Strike hard.
I just finished a Med reg on call shift. My FY1 colleague, by the time I got there, had already delivered life saving treatment at 8pm a sunday. Don't ever try and tell me that my FY1 colleague is worth £16 an hour. Don't ever tell me they're not worth £22/hr. Strike hard.
The govt continues to insult and disrespect hardworking healthcare workers across the board. No attempt to address repeated years of pay erosion. @wesstreeting you’ve got to do better than this. Doctors, get ballot ready. See you on the picket line ✊🏻
A 4% pay uplift, less than current inflation, is an insult to doctors in England. This Government has shown it simply doesn’t value doctors. “The DDRB has failed doctors. If this is the best they can do, government needs to think again.” says @DrPhilBanfield This ‘award’…
Slowly hitting me that unemployment is looking like a real possibility this August. Struggling to find trust grade registrar posts. Anyone know anywhere that might want to employ a post IMT and MRCP Med reg?
. @Urodoc46 ‘Babysitting’ was a poor choice of words. You are part of the problem when it comes to the ever growing infantilisation of Foundation doctors, and you should show them the respect they deserve. They are not your children—they are your colleagues.
So you think the best use of a surgical SHO/reg/consultants time is to sit on the wards babysitting the F1s rather than actually operating? Cool
Glad to see movement on this with DDRB around the corner. Well done for getting the ball rolling Northern RDC!
“We expect inflation to increase this year, to a peak of about 3.7%” - @bankofengland Inflation was last reported as 3.5%. A 2.8% ‘affordable pay award’ = real terms cut. Doctors - share your views with us about your pay in our pay & conditions survey: forms.office.com/pages/response…
🚨 UHB locum rate cuts U TURN 🚨 @uhbtrust have reversed all cuts to doctors extra contractual work rates. @TheBMA have suspended the dispute. We have shown trusts up and down the country the power of our collective action as doctors. What a WIN for our members ‼️

Organised successful pickets with high turnouts in Bristol & directly represented doctors in the national media. Reversed adverse ARCP outcomes for doctors who had met their competencies and had training extended as a way to strike break. 2/3
On the topic of elections, I am running for Deputy Chair in Northern RDC elections :) But whoever you vote for, make sure to read their statements! Do not vote blindly!
Every year around BMA elections time, you realise how salty some people still are about losing an election the previous year 😂🧂
