Nobody responsible for designing these bus stops took any notice of the users of the bus services. These same people are at @TfL and government quango @activetraveleng and are still the main advisers to Government.
When I'm in the bus, the ramp comes down & the doors open, I can't see to my left if a cyclist is approaching, particularly at speed. As gravity draws my #wheelchair down the ramp, I can't stop the momentum. I have no way of knowing or stopping, putting us both in great danger.
If you're going to read one article about transport in London, this is it. Explains why bus speeds are at a record low, why that matters, why general traffic speeds are among the slowest in the world despite the drop in vehicle numbers. Read on! the-londoner.co.uk/feel-like-your…
How did anyone believe such a concept to be a good idea?
Keep posting different designs of floating bus stops & still the same issues. This one is in Mile End in London. @simonlightwood @Heidi_Labour @LordPeterHendy how much longer do blind people have to wait to get their bus services back? Please pause any more floating bus stops.
Trams increase choice. Within 2yrs Croydon Tram carried 16m passengers a yr. 20% transferred from cars. Trams work especially well where the population density is not high enough to justify a tube but where trips can take a long time by bus. But UK needs to cut construction costs
More plans to increase segregation in what is already one of the most traffic segregated boroughs in London. Hackney has published plans for its Dalston LTN. Will ease traffic on some roads at the expense of others. consultation.hackney.gov.uk/streetscene/da…
Our opposition to LTNs is well-known. Over the next few days we will tackle some other issues. We back investment in buses across the UK. In London the average speed has fallen to 9mph. Bad for passengers, esp those on low-incomes, bad for the bus industry and bad for the economy
All the charities representing blind people in the Uk and 290 other groups are calling for a halt to more stops like this. Claims about cycle safety don’t cut it - 80% of cycling injuries are at intersections. Very few are associated with bus stops.
Dear @Heidi_Labour,@simonlightwood, @LilianGreenwood,@LordPeterHendy, How can blind people, who can neither see nor hear cycles against the background noise, safely & in comfort cross the bike track at Westminster Bridge bus stop with cycles that mostly won’t slow let alone stop?
LTN lies continue to harm children outside the zones … I condemn your actions
The data used to show LTNs are good is not what all it seems. Misleading disinformation pushed out into public to gaslight people into believing LTNs work … My council lied to residents and blocked them when questions were asked … The council mislead residents. Provided…
Our oppostion to LTNs is well-known but we had a fair challenge that we say more what we think on other matters. It's on our website, but here goes. First up: Pavements. They should be safe, well-maintained, accessible havens for pedestrians, not invaded by other species.
The pause on floating bus stops by @LordPeterHendy @simonlightwood is for shared use bus borders as shown in the video, where passengers board & alight the bus directly from & into the cycle lane. This pause needs to be made permanent, along with all types of floating bus stops.
What 'evidence' does London Cycling Campaign need to see that people are avoiding floating bus stops? Who do LCC expect to source this evidence? It's as if LCC are saying "if you can't prove it's unjust we'll continue to make life hell for you!" Same MO being used for LTNs.
.@psimonk of @london_cycling says floating bus stops are safer than other road features. Well Simon, do please demonstrate how blind people might safely cross the bus stop at Westminster Bridge a few times. I’ll bring my GoPro camera!
Campaigners say the design, with a cycle lane between the bus stop and pavement, puts passengers at risk. bbc.in/4nFP89F
Frustration after government only issues partial ban on new floating bus stops #FloatingBusStops @NFBUK disabilitynewsservice.com/frustration-af…
This powerful from @indieHackney . The result of Hackney Council putting more and more traffic onto fewer roads and its stubborn refusal to open up its LTNs to ease the impact of road works.
Just another day for the victims of LTNs and road closures carried out without mitigation. You know who matters to @HackneyLabour when Richmond Rd is not reopened to traffic and poor people on Dalston Lane are left to breathe in this level of pollution in this heat.
Many London’s main roads are single lane. The cycle lobby got dedicated cycle lanes, removing bus lanes, slowing the bus. A trip to Heathrow is £15 on the tube vs £1.75 on the bus. These costs force the invisible minimum wage work force onto endlessly delayed busses. Unfair.
Multimodal streets aren't "communism". They're good math.
Bus route 215 … a low frequency route that runs outside LTN boundary roads in Waltham Forest….. extreamly poor performance….. A route suffering to run to time …. Waltham Forest LTN boundary roads consistently see congestion…… Low frequency routes tells us allot more…
“He slaughtered her in the street for nothing” - the words of Alice’s Mum, Clare, in this moving but shocking interview with @SkyNews Alice was just 9 years old when she was killed by a speeding driver ignoring a red light and a loving family crossing the road. This was no…
'He gratuitously killed my child' Alice Williams was killed by Qadeer Hussain who failed to stop at a red light as she was crossing with her mum and brother. Alice's parents have been highlighting the deadly consequences of drivers running red lights. trib.al/zquL1sB
A more productive area would be research that compared the return on investment that focused on casualty reduction on 'main' rds with money spent on LTNs. But once again Rachel Aldred's Active Travel Unit is only keen to do work that promotes LTNs. theguardian.com/world/2025/jul…
In following this issue for 12 years I can say this is the most frank public statement made by a TfL officer recognising that floating bus stops have ‘challenges’ for blind people in using them.
‘TfL is not now rolling out shared use bus boarders at this point in time’ stated by Lead Sponsor of TfL Investment Planning Directorate who oversees delivery of cycling investment. This pause however should include all floating bus stops. 4th July outside Colliers Wood Station.
London hasn't built enough homes since the 1930s. 1937: 3 page planning application 2025: 1,250 pages (25 pages longer than War and Peace) It didn't used to be this hard to build homes, it doesn't need to be today.
