Please retweet if you support blind people’s call to halt more floating bus stops and once again be able to use the bus. Please write to your MP: parliament.uk/get-involved/c…

Nobody responsible for designing these bus stops took any notice of the users of the bus services. These same people are at @TfL and government quango @activetraveleng and are still the main advisers to Government.
When I'm in the bus, the ramp comes down & the doors open, I can't see to my left if a cyclist is approaching, particularly at speed. As gravity draws my #wheelchair down the ramp, I can't stop the momentum. I have no way of knowing or stopping, putting us both in great danger.
Hey @MayorofLondon @Heidi_Labour @simonlightwood, you might want to read how you are excluding blind people from the bus network in London and across the UK with your un-evidenced policies around floating bus stops. Disabled people have the right to independent travel!
Buses provide a vital service to blind and partially sighted people in getting to work, attending healthcare appointments, completing education, and being part of communities. Read our #AllAboard report on Navigating bus travel with sight loss: rnib.in/bus-report
The @MayorofLondon sticks two fingers up at the fears of blind people and floating bus stops: Shoreditch High Street junction with Great Eastern Street - Improving safety | Have Your Say Transport for London haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/shoreditch-hig…
A good part of the reason for the disastrous floating bus stop debacle is because they were first installed by Boris Johnson and his born-again Cycling Czar Andrew Gilligan.
Keep posting different designs of floating bus stops & still the same issues. This one is in Mile End in London. @simonlightwood @Heidi_Labour @LordPeterHendy how much longer do blind people have to wait to get their bus services back? Please pause any more floating bus stops.
These bus stops have long struck me as fundamentally unsafe.
If you think this should all stop and everyone should be able to access their bus directly to and from the kerb then write to your MP.

The lack of compassion of the cycle lobby is staggering. Most ordinary people wouldn’t dream of making such a decision against the interests of the most vulnerable. What are these people?
Tesfai, a 70 year old blind man will never again be able to independently catch the bus from Streaham Hill because of the overblown nonsense of the fanatical cycle lobby and those politicians who have drunk the cycling Koolaid: metro.co.uk/2025/07/18/9-5… via @MetroUK

.@activetraveleng doing such a great job [not]? @FeryalClark @Meg_HillierMP @RuthCadbury @simonlightwood @LilianGreenwood @LordPeterHendy @Heidi_Labour
Well there’s plenty more coming with #YorkCentral for which there was no detailed consultation with disabled people 😤 x.com/flickhwilliams…
Blind people are consulted. That allows the promoters to say they have a process. The UK’s equality laws are about procedure not rights and outcomes. It is cynical and makes no difference.
You would have thought the needs of those who are visually and mobility impaired would have been consulted at the design phase. They made similar serious errors in redesigning area of Blackpool promenade & town centre. No consideration for those groups shown.
Absolutely and well said @RuthCadbury MP: “We need a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination and inadequacies in our transport services.” Blind people certainly want @Heidi_Labour, SoS Transport to stop the roll out of floating bus stops that clearly discriminate against them.

London’s cycling Czar should have been sacked a long time ago for failing on so many fronts. He drank the koolaid of cycling and blew near a billion on cycle tracks and there are now many more serious cycle injuries than when he started.
Some cyclists are idiots, says London cycling commissioner @willnorman - but dangerous drivers are idiots too standard.co.uk/news/transport…
This is regarded by the cycle lobby as a flagship scheme. They have taken dozens of politicians to show them what a great thing the Waltham Forest mini-Holland scheme is. They spent more than £30m and destroyed the bus services to this part of east London and beyond.
The pause on floating bus stops by @LordPeterHendy @simonlightwood is for shared use bus borders as shown in the video, where passengers board & alight the bus directly from & into the cycle lane. This pause needs to be made permanent, along with all types of floating bus stops.
This was a nice @hackneycouncil public realm scheme. Now it’s been wrecked. The council has a legal duty to keep its streets clear of highways obstructions. Instead it signs contracts with multinational companies and encourages all this.

What a truly terrible response from the SoS for Transport to a blind MP trying to get over a point on behalf of blind people across the country who are losing access to their bus services because of the cycle tracks being routed through bus stops.
For anyone else who’s going to contact their MP about this, here’s the link to a YouTube channel that’s got a ton of videos, clearly showing just how ridiculous and hazardous this design is for pedestrians and bus passengers youtube.com/channel/UCDZjj… (Cheers @NFBUK @VincentStops)
Dear @Heidi_Labour,@simonlightwood, @LilianGreenwood,@LordPeterHendy, How can blind people, who can neither see nor hear cycles against the background noise, safely & in comfort cross the bike track at Westminster Bridge bus stop with cycles that mostly won’t slow let alone stop?
