Main road residents matter.
I’ve lived here on Graham Rd Hackney now for 33 yrs. Seeing congestion was extremely rare. Since LTNs implemented 18 mnths ago it’s the new normal. Daily idling cues for hours on end. This vid shows today (Saturday) at 6.40pm. No mitigating plans from Council. 😥 @mayorofhackney
If LTNs are about health they should implemented for the busiest roads where asthma rates are highest. Wealthy side street residents would complain about their added traffic but it’s mainly self-generated. Living with the consequence might force behaviour change. @SocEnvJustice
The most heavily residential section of Dalston Ln has been left like this👇during the 3 week closure of Graham Rd. No opening of the former thru route (RICHmond Rd) & seemingly no changes to light timings. Who is responsible for this chaos? @SarahWoodberryD @mayorofhackney
This powerful from @indieHackney . The result of Hackney Council putting more and more traffic onto fewer roads and its stubborn refusal to open up its LTNs to ease the impact of road works.
Just another day for the victims of LTNs and road closures carried out without mitigation. You know who matters to @HackneyLabour when Richmond Rd is not reopened to traffic and poor people on Dalston Lane are left to breathe in this level of pollution in this heat.
A cynical ‘win’. The ‘boundary’ roads outside the LTNs, which are often 800% less safe than side roads see no reduction in injuries. Who cares about their residents? theguardian.com/world/2025/jul…
Tomorrow the self-styled Healthy Streets Scorecard will announce its annual award for the London borough which it argues has the healthiest streets. But don’t be conned. They do no research into transport & health. It is merely a tick-box exercise into areas chosen by them.
Hackney isn’t inundated with cars. Car miles driven have been coming down for decades. LTN road closures have caused motorised traffic to be funnelled to a just a few, highly residential, roads causing unprecedented congestion (and pollution). Pipe dreams are no solution.
So after years of @LambethLabour @RezinaChowdhury @clairekholland lecturing us on how LTNs tackle climate change, reduce overall pollution etc, @betterstreetswd confirms what we already knew ie that LTN activists are only really concerned about the streets THEY live on.
Anna Goodman's husband trying to grasp at any straw to make LTNs popular. Now they're a good thing because they make property prices go up? Desperate times clearly call for desperate measures. His total lack of empathy for those on the boundary of LTNs is insane.
Why do councils like Waltham Forest record data end of June start of July ? Quietest times of the year … college closed, year 11 finished … uni finished … many on holiday …. Some would think it’s a deliberate attempt to to show less cars 🤷♂️
While Southwark cllrs like to pretend Croxted Rd is not their responsibility or their problem, Tfl and local residents *know* the truth. The Dulwich LTN is the cause of this congestion. 5 years on and no evaporation.
And today
70% of Hackney’s roads is closed to motor traffic by LTNs. As a result, even during the summer holiday residential Graham Rd (A1207) is congested most of the day, every day. @mayorofhackney & @hackneycouncil ignore its residents. We don’t matter to them 😢 👇23/8/24 at 12pm
LTNs work to make councils hundreds of £millions in motorist fines. LTNs work for consulting 'charities' paid tens of £millions. LTNs work for councillors with properties inside LTNs. LTNs work for those seeking to bring in road pricing. LTNs work if you can ignore the injustice.
These guys’ ignorant, insular, and selfish views are becoming more evident by the day.

Looking at this image, rather than low income families being 2.7 times more likely to live within the West Dulwich LTN, is it in fact "the whitest, least densely populated, wealthiest, greenest part of the borough with the highest car ownership in Lambeth"? Ht @RuthMcKay162841
You can either support traffic reduction and road safety on all roads, or you can support LTNs. You do the latter.
They chose to increase air pollution for those most at risk, in order to reduce traffic on the roads of those most responsible. Five years later, they're driving even more miles and congestion/pollution on community roads & bus routes is worse than ever. x.com/LittleNinjaUK/…
Councils know an idling engine can produce this much #airpollution every minute 👇🏾 yet they're intentionally closing side roads & creating traffic congestion on residential roads. 😱 #socialinjusticeofLTNs @hold_bag @personasasa @pandapoodle2 @NormanC28839418 @ediz1975 @BeebsG
Humiliation for Lambeth Council today as judge rules it must: – Tear down the West Dulwich LTN which it implemented unlawfully by ignoring residents’ legitimate concerns – Pay campaigners' court costs (£35k) The judge also blocked Lambeth from appealing Full story incoming
