*A plea to UK GPs and Healthcare Professionals:* This Government will soon be moving to force more long-term sick and disabled people in receipt of ESA and Universal Credit LCW and LCWRA elements into work. (1/15)
Hoping the House of Lords channels serious “Nobody puts the House of Lords in the corner” energy. With all our emails and some terrific speakers, they could back the ‘motion to regret’ and give us speeches that will benefit future legal action. This could happen. #TakingThePiP
Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana are struggling to find a name for their new political party. Presumably it's because it must have: a minimum of 8 letters, one upper case letter, one lower case letter, one number, and one symbol.
I am sorry this is the most I can do...
In the Universal Credit Bill @natalieben made a superb speech explaining how the Bill will make life tougher for thousands of disabled people. She will move a regret motion so that people can see that some of us would stop the Bill if we could. (Money Bills can't be stopped.)
“My Lords, I am concerned that the debate has increased hate against disabled people”. - House of Lords #TakingThePIP
On Tuesday I have regret motion in Universal Credit Bill. Strongest action I can take since we cannot stop or amend a money bill. You might want to lobby any Lords you know to support the regret motion #Poverty #Inequality parliament.uk/business/news/…
I wasn’t elected on a manifesto to slash billions from disabled people’s benefits - and nor was any other Labour MP.
Baroness Bennett has tabled a non-fatal motion to regret the Universal Credit Bill—a formal way for the Lords to express concern without blocking it. The dreadful irony? The Bill will be fatal for many. #TakingThePIP
On today’s non-political Hall of Fame, we have @Shrink_at_Large Dr Jay Watts for her steadfast advocacy for disabled people and her campaigning - she helps make like better for disabled people. She is a legend. Thank you 💜 #DisabilityRebellion #TakingThePIP #WelfareNotWarfare
My support and solidarity to Labour colleagues & friends who have been suspended or stripped of roles over the past few days. Standing up for constituents, voting against harmful cuts & fighting for marginalised people should not be grounds for punishment. Incredibly concerning.
APPG on Disability is meeting to discuss the welfare system on: 📅 Monday, 21st July ⏰ 2-3pm We need as many Disabled people in the room to share your experiences and what needs to change! Email [email protected] for confirm your attendance!
LORDS REVIEW UC BILL ON TUESDAY Lords can't stop UC Bill BUT every speech in our support builds legal case and hopefully will encourage support for Baroness Bennett's fab 'motion to regret'. 📧 Please email the template or your version to speaking Lords: shorturl.at/VsJNE
Before people, including Labour Party spokespersons, comment or decide upon Diane Abbott’s fate, could I suggest that they actually listen to Diane’s interview on BBC Refections in which she forthrightly condemns antisemitism & discusses the different forms of racism.
I am Jewish I am not offended What @HackneyAbbott said seemed like commonsense to me
Kate Garraway: what Diane Abbot said has "really upset and offended Jewish people" A reminder of what Diane actually said. If your skin is a different colour to other people, the way racism manifests against you is different #GMB
My full support to my Labour colleagues who have been suspended over opposition to disability cuts. Alongside nearly 50 of us, they were simply standing up for their disabled constituents and following their consciences. Challenging policies that harm our communities, that…
Another petty counterproductive move from Starmer. Punishing MPs who stood against a widely unpopular policy won’t endear him to the public or improve discipline in the party. It just makes him look like he hasn’t learnt a thing from the disability cuts. Because he hasn’t.
.@UKLabour is losing its moral compass and any ability to manage relationships with the backbenches. This looks mean and vengeful and is bound to fail. How sad it has come to this @CompassOffice theguardian.com/politics/live/…
It's not a sin to stand up for the poor and disabled. Instead of learning from their error the govt has mistakenly suspended 4 decent MPs To the millions of disabled people, their carers and relatives I say this: we fight on for justice. Solidarity with the suspended Four
Suspended Labour MP @RachaelMaskell tells Sky's @JonCraig why she rebelled against the government over its welfare reforms. She says there was "strong" evidence that the changes could lead to some disabled people taking their own lives
Suspended Labour MP Neil Duncan-Jordan says: "Since being elected I have consistently spoken up for my constituents on a range of issues, including most recently on cuts to disability benefits. I understood this could come at a cost, but I couldn’t support making disabled people…
