It was great to talk to @jeremycorbyn yesterday about pay restoration and our concerns regarding doctor replacement with physician assistants. He was concerned about the taskification of healthcare. Also struggled to understand why assistants were paid more than doctors
Absolutely crazy statistic Paying Drs a mere £23/hr would end these strikes. It's a bargain for @wesstreeting
'Even if our pay was restored we would still be paid less than the Physician Assistants with their two year degree ' BMA Resident Doctors Committee Co-chair, Dr Ross Nieuwoudt told #BBCBreakfast his members feel 'a little bit tricked' by Health Secretary Wes Streeting as they…
It’s not the BMA “undermining the trade union movement”. It’s a Labour Prime Minister, writing in the Murdoch press, urging junior doctors to break with their union leadership. That’s a direct attack on trade unionism. Solidarity with @TheBMA and junior doctors on strike.
Keir Starmer: Resident doctors should break ranks with the BMA leadership. The industrial action that starts on Friday is in no one’s interests and medics should not follow their union down its dangerous and destructive route, he says. thetimes.com/article/3fdcd5…
Don’t question the mandate of the BMA when your own constituents came within a whisker of removing you. To see a Labour minister asking resident doctors to break their own picket lines is shameful. I can assure you no postal worker will cross those hospital picket lines.
Dear resident doctors…
No doctor today is worth less than they were 17 years ago. Watch @RossNieuwoudt correct some misconceptions around resident doctors pay in England 👇
Massive picket by @BMAResidents successfully completed on Westminster Bridge. Resident doctors deserve fair pay.
I’m supporting @TheBMA Because trying to fix the NHS without improving pay & conditions for health/social care workers is like trying to refill a bath without the plug Recruitment, retention, burnout - this is the crisis Resident doctors deserve better. So does every patient
FY2 doctor @CowdryBen says many colleagues fear they will be without a job come August because of the lack of specialty training roles. He said many doctors feel frustrated that PAs, with less training, are paid more than doctors. That they are ‘shows the money is there’, he…
Chair of @BMAWestMidsRDC @DrPeterFahey says the promised ‘journey’ towards #PayRestoration is happening at ‘a snail’s pace’. He supports a multi-year pay deal but says it would take 20 years to restore pay at the rate the government’s offer represents.
The free food @wesstreeting is promising Resident Doctors.
This just shows how badly doctors are treated by the NHS The health secretary generally believes that covering cost of mandatory feee to do your job, a discount on shit NHS food and a promise to look into you not being unemployed is a good deal.
EXCL: Wes Streeting’s offer to the BMA in full - including cheaper lunches! This is what the doctors’ union rejected in favour of strikes: thesun.co.uk/news/politics/…
If a department wouldn’t hire me because I went on strike to improve pay for all of us, that’s not a department I want to work in. The culture there would already be telling me everything I need to know.
I have some sympathy for senior registrars. If you want to work as a consultant in the hospital you’re currently working at, it would put you in bad standing with some consultants to take industrial action. Shouldn’t be like that, but it is
I can not understand the need to reconfigure GPs through any other lens than achieving a specific Doctor:Patient ratio. Access. Continuity. Care.
Physician Associates are being renamed to Physician Assistants because the public was confused about their role. But here’s what’s truly confusing: A physician assistant now starts on a salary that’s nearly £10,000 more than a fully qualified doctor. Read that again. Doctors…
It’s worth noting consultants have written to the secretary of state asking for a meeting too, we’ve been completely ignored without even a reply so far.
Sick of being called ‘greedy’, Brown line is consultants, way below the zero line, the blue line is average workers, back above zero. Average pay has climbed at about equal rates over last 3 years but consultant pay still nearly 20% down graph (CPI). There’s full tax restoration,…
Are you a resident thinking about taking a locum shift on a strike day? Why risk actively undermining the strike, when you could just wait for your back pay from Wes’ pay award (such as it is) to arrive in August? 😇
Anybody know of any other profession where their assistants out-earn them? Welcome to UK medicine ....
Parliamentary assistant salary £ 30-37k @wesstreeting salary £161,409 Doctor salary £38,831 for 40 hour week Their assistant: £ 46-52k for 37.5 hours Who is the unreasonable one? @BMAResidents @DoctorsVoteUK
The bottom line with all NHS staff, not just doctors, is that unless you make the NHS a decent place to work, with a decent enough salary to be able to pay off your debts and afford to buy a house near where you work, or at least know where you’re going to be working in the next…
