DoctorsVote 🦀 #TellThemAgain
@Doctors_Vote
A campaign group of doctors across the country who are seeking #PayRestoration.
Doctors' assistants are earning almost 47% more than a fully qualified doctor in London. Even with full pay restoration, doctors would still be earning less than their assistants. Paying doctors £22.67/hr would still be a bargain for this country.
Funny how @KemiBadenoch doesn’t support doctors striking because we have a mandate, but does support nurses because they don’t have a mandate to strike. When nurses call for strike action doctors will be in full support. No worker should be paid less than they were in 2008.
First @KemiBadenoch comes for doctors’ right to strike. Who’s next, the nurses? This is a desperate attempt by the Conservatives to stay relevant as they tank in the polls. NHS staff are united. We won’t be silenced. We’re fighting for fair pay, and we’re not backing down.
A number of derogations have had to be granted at @nottmhospitals due to a lack of appropriate planning for strike action The noises from @NHSEngland have no doubt encouraged trusts to take approaches that have led to an increased risk to patient safety - this is unacceptable
Due to the dangerous lack of planning and action taken by the QMC in Nottingham, we are forced to accept a derogation for 4x resident doctors tonight for the Emergency Department. Protecting patient safety during strikes has always been a priority to the BMA, however the…
Pleased to report that the night team I am currently covering have chosen to strike in their entirety, and this particular consultant can use a computer, so no significant patient safety issues. What an absolute embarrassment. Imagine working for this lot.
Due to the failure to train consultants on a new EPR system, lack of planning and action taken by the Northern General in Sheffield, we are forced to accept a derogation for 3x resident doctors for tonight's night shift (26th July) for Acute Medicine. Protecting patient safety…
Utterly disgraceful remarks from @wesstreeting These doctors are the backbone of our NHS Their real pay is down 20% compared to 2008 It's time they were treated with the respect and dignity they deserve
The derogation granted to Kings College Hospital for a Radiology SpR, has been revoked for both today and tomorrow. This is due to a false submission of accurate staffing levels. Either local management were unaware they had sufficient cover, or they deliberately misled us.
1 in 5 shifts resident doctors do is for free Any surprise that 20k doctors will most likely leave this year?
🧵 Retired surgeon Prof Meirion Thomas' claims that patients struggle to see GPs because “too many women are doctors” are insulting and unfounded. Workforce challenges stem from underfunding and rising demand, not gender.
Solidarity to all striking resident doctors @BMAResidents today. Consultants have your backs. @TheBMA
Wes Streeting’s leaked offer letter to the BMA confirms what many of us feared: there is still no serious intent from him to resolve this dispute. 🔴 No offer on pay - despite this being a pay dispute. 🔴 Vague references to “exploring” help with the cost of equipment, meals,…
The sad irony being that full pay restoration for resident doctors would cost less than this. At just £1.3bn approx if you did it overnight. And to be clear, @BMAResidents aren’t even asking for it overnight. They’re happy to negotiate a journey via a multiyear deal. #WinWin
Doctors are fleeing the NHS. Every year, 20 000 doctors are leaving the profession prematurely - many because their pay no longer reflects the weight of the job. The real question isn’t whether we can afford to pay doctors. It’s whether we can afford the cost of losing them.
I'm fed up with seeing journalist paid over £200+ per hour call Doctors greedy for asking for £22 per hour for saving lives. Without doctors we have no NHS. A win for doctors is a win for all. It's not about turning out eachother. We need solidarity. #JoinStrikeWin
Doctors are there in our most critical moments. They care. They heal. They don’t strike lightly. Junior doctors are asking for just £4 more an hour — many carry £100k+ in debt. The govt must negotiate in good faith with @TheBMA. Solidarity with striking doctors. #DoctorsStrike
Northern doctors sent a clear message today that no doctor is worth less than a doctor in 2008 The power to end these strikes lies squarely with @wesstreeting - he must make a meaningful offer to reverse our pay erosion and continue the journey to fair pay #DoctorsStrike
Thank you @jeremycorbyn for visiting our regional WM @BMAResidents doctors picket line. Where is @wesstreeting? No doctor wants to strike. We want to be at work doing what we spent years training for. Today, we stand together @TheBMA because there's no other choice.
Has anyone managed to ask @wesstreeting directly on live tv why newly qualified physician Assistants are paid £10k more than newly qualified resident Drs ?
Hey @wesstreeting the bloke who mows my neighbour's lawn and weeds the borders is on £20 p/h. Why are some resident doctors paid less than that? 🤔
No doctor working today is worth 21% less than in 2008. A first year doctor working through the night to give life saving treatment to all our loved ones is worth more than £18.62/hour All we are asking is they are paid £22.67/ hour. It’s a bargain @LidlGB @wesstreeting
It’s not the BMA “undermining the trade union movement”. It’s a Labour Prime Minister, writing in the Murdoch press, urging junior doctors to break with their union leadership. That’s a direct attack on trade unionism. Solidarity with @TheBMA and junior doctors on strike.
Keir Starmer: Resident doctors should break ranks with the BMA leadership. The industrial action that starts on Friday is in no one’s interests and medics should not follow their union down its dangerous and destructive route, he says. thetimes.com/article/3fdcd5…
