Dr Sumi Manirajan
@sumitriptan
Doctor. Deputy Chair of @BMAResidents 22-24. BMA UK Council.
I’ve had a very special delivery today. Coming to hospitals near you. (yes they’re double sided) #AskForADoctor @BMA_JuniorDocs

Doctors deserve full pay restoration. Last year Labour offered a 4.25% uplift on the previous Tory offer. This was accepted as part of a pathway to restoration. Now Labour employ the same tactics as the Tories did to try and demonise doctors. It ain't gonna work. Solidarity ✊
The Secretary of State has come with some ideas but it's not enough yet to be able to suspend the strikes. I hope that there is further progress soon - we don't want to strike but now it's up to the DHSC to address residents' concerns properly. I remain hopeful!
Thank you to Council @RCPhysicians for confirming decision of Censors. Not unexpected given that same Council voted FOR Associate Membership for PAs-even after #RCPEGM -and got halted by me exposing that in public. To the appeal next. And then next steps. And there are so many…
I’m not usually one for petitions but when someone is ousted from the RCP for raising safety concerns, silence isn’t an option. @parthakar’s removal is shocking. Council must refuse to ratify it next week or risk complicity in the governance failings laid bare in the Kings Fund…
Prof @parthaskar will be suspended by the RCP after raising concerns in an open and transparent manner. This sets a dangerous precedent. Inaction is complicity. RCP members must speak up. ✍️ Sign the letter 👇👇👇

It's always weird to see these bizarre claims that the committee is "hard left" or "corbynistas". This is a wave of young people aged typically between 23-35 who see Broken Britain for what it is. Raising rent, raising house prices, raising energy prices, raising leisure…
With the resident doctor’s strike coming up, doctors might be wondering how their action brings the government to the table. This graphic explains ⬇️ On a strike day, do not locum. You will be directly impacting yourselves & your colleagues. #DoctorsStrike
Apparently no money to pay doctors £22.67/hr. But £1,300,000,000 to pay management consultants. Now we know where the money is going @Wesstreeting.
After @RCPhysicians recent treatment of @parthaskar I will be moving my membership to @RCPEdin. I was so proud when I got MRCP (2010) but I cannot associate myself with this shambles of an organisation any more. A sad day. I urge others to do the same & I wish I’d done it sooner.
REMINDER: Have tweeted a lot about this previously. But when PAY is DOWN, PENSION linked to that pay is also DOWN. So you *cant* fix this by robbing Peter (pension) to pay Paul (pay). You are both Peter and Paul so you cant rob your future self to fund pay rises. *Not* fair
4/ Because pension is linked to pay, huge erosion of their pay = huge erosion of pension. So you *cannot* fix pay by robbing their pension. It doesnt work - any attempt to force this through will lead "RLE" =retire, leave, emigrate #DontRobPetertoPayPaul #DontRobPensiontoFixPay
I’ve had a wave of racist and abusive messages in the past 24 hours. It doesn’t bother me. I’m proud to stand up for doctors - and I always will. If the best argument you’ve got is my skin colour or nationality (British, thanks), then you’ve already lost the argument!
Doctors: Can you fix 15 years of pay erosion so we can keep treating patients? Wes: No. But I’ll improve your “working conditions.” You mean the hospitals where: – There are no desks or rest spaces – Staff rooms are storage closets – No training jobs after years of exams – PAs…
The @RCPhysicians has been run into the ground. No lessons have been learnt. The leadership is out of touch. This is #NotMyRCP and this decision against @parthaskar must be rescinded immediately
You know what’s sad about the “what about their pensions” brigade? It wasn’t really all that long ago that pensions in the UK were better across the board. I want all workers to have good pensions, including those in the private sector. These guys want us all to have nothing.
Once again, I beseech you: Every single discussion of public sector pay - nurses, doctors, teachers etc - should include the value of public sector pensions. Compensation deferred remains compensation.
Schrödinger's doctor: Simultaneously too important to strike, but not important enough to have their pay restored.
I graduated as a doctor 4 years ago with ~£100k of debt, and despite working up to 72 hours a week, my debt has only increased. Doctors are being paid £17/hour and have to make loan repayments and pay thousands for exams and fees. We are only asking for £23/hour. @wesstreeting

Imagine someone nicks £40 from your £100. They give you £20 back, then call you greedy for asking for the rest. That’s what doctors are facing. They are being paid 20% less in real terms than they were in 2008. Full pay restoration is not an unreasonable demand.
£17 - current doctor starting rate £23 - what doctors are campaigning for £29 - what an MP earns per hour Part of Labour's objection is that only 55% of doctors voted, even though it was a 90% vote to strike If Labour are upset at 90% of a 55% turnout, then wait till Labour…
Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Not bad for a little boy from Crawley, @HazelwickSchool. Follow your dreams; never be told it can’t be done; have a go & be prepared to fail. Thank you to everyone who’s helped me make the impossible possible.
A 108% rise in fees coupled with a 4% pay rise, and still no clarity for resident doctors. “the income from car parking is used to maintain our car parks including the costs of repairs and maintenance” Given the FOI below, is this really true @SouthTees?
