.@3_under_scores_ and I are launching @betterblocksnj — a new political advocacy group focused on working with elected leaders and candidates starting in Jersey City to: 🏘️ Build more housing 🚆 Improve mass transit 🚸 Make our streets safer 🌳 Protect our public parks 1/

Also, the project I’m most looking forward to here is the reimagined Holland Gardens that will provide new affordable housing for current residents and a brand new library in a mixed-income pedestrian friendly neighborhood.
Construction Update: Downtown Jersey City's Northern End Continues to Boom - New residential buildings are popping up all around this Jersey City neighborhood, with streetscape improvements, new parks, and flood mitigation projects all making progress: buff.ly/ebdt8xB
Flood mitigation improvements are a big reason why more people should support development. Each new project here makes homes in Hamilton Park, Harsimus Cove, and Hoboken a little less likely to flood in sudden downpours due to water retention and sewer improvements.

Hoping this means @SolomonforJC will support the proposal for more homes here in the Arts District at 150 Bay - including 100 subsidized units set aside specifically for artists! How about it, councilman? Let’s build some affordable housing and give back to the arts community!
2/ Our city is bursting with local talent — from musicians and painters to dancers and poets. As your next Mayor, I’ll make sure Jersey City’s focus and money go toward Jersey City artists — so it remains a place where artists can afford to live, work, and inspire.
Why do the Jersey City Parking Authority vehicles now have two employees in them now? We have two people wandering around in a Chevy in what could be a one-person job done mostly on foot or the little motorized autocycle.
ICYMI: Read why eliminating on-site parking improves housing affordability without increasing traffic or parking on the street. Jersey City is a leader in both car-free households and building parking-free apartments because it attracts households who don't rely on cars.
A common refrain in the discourse around housing, development, and street safety is the question, "Where will they park?" Jersey City is a leader in eliminating parking minimums from new development and has one of the nation's highest rates of car-free households as a result.
.@HudCountyCars — oh, you’re gonna hate this.
it's not that they're bad drivers, it's that driving is bad 😇
The French said the same thing about the Eiffel Tower. There will always be loud, critical voices who believe their personal aesthetic taste should dictate what is built and where. I believe we should build so everyone who wants to live, work, and relax in the city can.
“Madison Square is not a bad‑looking place as it is, and ought to be one of the beauty spots of the city. It is grievous to think that its fair proportions are to be marred by this outlandish structure.” - Life magazine on the Flatiron building
Imagine how much Jersey City could benefit economically if the Turnpike terminated before Bayview Ave. If that right of way were returned to the city, we could have a tree-line boulevard with shops, restaurants, and apartments along it with close access to the light rail.
At Black Bird Bookstore on Irving Street between 46th and 47th Avenues, owner Kathryn Grantham told SFGATE her sales are up 50% over last year, when the Great Highway was closed to cars on weekends, and jumped by 30% following the opening of the park. sfgate.com/local/article/…
As usual, @NJTRANSIT can’t run anywhere near schedule after an event. @NJTransit_CA I’m sure to miss my @NJTRANSIT_HBLR connection in Hoboken now. Thanks for fixing NJ Transit @GovMurphy 🙄
Just wait until you hear the city is trying to create dedicated lanes so the 43% of people who live here without a car can get where they want to go faster…
They took away a space for cars and gave us, what, space for the community to come together? On foot? This is an outrage!!!!
America is at its best when we are all equal before the law.
A New Jersey judge today imposed a lifetime ban on public employment and running for office on Bob Menendez, who can also lose his state pension. newjerseyglobe.com/judiciary/judg…
This is also a sign that congestion pricing isn’t causing a mass migration of New York-based firms to New Jersey. Jersey City is going to have to figure out a way to attract and retain commercial businesses if it wants to retain its economic vibrancy.
Second partial office-to-residential conversion filed in downtown JC this year: the top 9 floors of 480 Washington Blvd in Newport are proposed to be converted to 288 apartments. Don't know how JC can retain its commercial tax base, but someone should come up with ideas.
A Friday night post on a beautiful summer evening. Probably not great for engagement but, hey, book mark this and read it on a rainy day.

¿Por qué no los dos?
Jim McGreevey is either profoundly ignorant or openly lying. Because of our stormwater regs, the parts of Jersey City with the most new development flood the least.
I feel bad that neither @GovMurphy nor the democratic nominee @MikieSherrill has put out a statement calling for a leadership change at the Port Authority. Chairman O'Toole needs to be replaced. Immediately.
At this point I almost feel bad for the staff member who has to tweet for @PATHTrain everyday is a new nightmare.
We can either have state support for building new affordable housing that helps low and moderate-income households or a property tax rebate to wealthy families making up to $500,000 a year that also drives up home prices by limiting the supply of homes for sale. Thanks, StayNJ!
New Jersey's cuts to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund are economically senseless. This is often the only source of funding for smaller, shovel-ready developments. We're calling on Gov. Murphy & legislative leaders to restore the full funding. newjerseymonitor.com/2025/07/03/adv…
Protected two-way bike lanes are the way to go for these types of safety improvements. I find the two-way bike lanes like the one on Grove in Jersey City easier to navigate because they concentrate bikers all in one lane, which makes it safer for drivers and pedestrians to spot.
Provide feedback on two designs for safety improvements to Willow Avenue! The City & @HudCoTweet project aims to make the high-crash corridor safer for all road users. Designs include protected bikeways, curb extensions, & more. hobokennj.gov/news/city-of-h…
Still no explanation about why they couldn't run Newport/33rd or run extra JSQ/WTC trains last weekend. What's the plan for this weekend? What's the plan to fix Hoboken? People are so mad because they don't communicate.
08:00 AM: HOB-WTC, HOB-33 trains are running every 10 minutes during rush hour due to ongoing switch issues. We know this is frustrating, and we're sorry for the inconvenience.
