Yinzer in Jersey City. Urban Planner. President of @BikeJC. #StreetsForPeople 🚴
I am truly honored to join the rich history of #JerseyCity Women of Action — a program which dates back to 1995! I am constantly inspired by the work of the many great women who work to make our city a better place. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenOfAction
Downtown’s JC’s next woman of action is urban planner extraordinaire @AylaSchermer. As President of @bikeJC, she’s been a fierce advocate for safe streets! But that’s not all she does - she’s beaten the Machine to become a Dem. committeewoman AND is a fellow @penguins fan!
Auto deaths are the most underreported story in history. In US alone, we usually have 40,000-plus auto-related deaths EVERY YEAR. That's like a stadium full of Mets fans, every year.
This really says it all, doesn’t it? This planter barely lasted a month, at the very intersection where a 6-year-old was recently killed. There are no accidents.

Highway expansion is wasteful today AND costly down the line We need more safe and affordable ways to get around NOT more lanes
Decisions about whether to invest future transportation dollars in highways vs transit have huge implications. CCI modeling finds that every $1 billion shifted from highway expansion to transit saves at least $1.7 billion in social and environmental costs. climateandcommunity.org/research/letti…
The Transportation team will host listening sessions this August as part of the City’s Transportation Master Plan update. If you're unable to attend in person, don’t worry—there will be more opportunities to participate, including an upcoming online survey.
BTW, when NYC’s dangerous, car-choked Canal St is redesigned—and eventually it will be—that will be yet another reason NOT to dump more car traffic directly onto it via the Holland Tunnel and an expanded @NJTurnpike Extension. 🛑🚫✋ @TurnpikeTrap @StreetsblogNYC @bikenewyork
We've been fighting to fix Canal Street for seven years, but City Hall has sat on its hands. Now two more New Yorkers are dead from a deadly crash. These deaths are avoidable. Canal Street must be redesigned now to save lives. We went on @PIX11News to talk about it:
Do you ride across the George Washington bridge? Take this survey to tell @PANYNJ about how great the new pathway is and how it should be open 24/7 for people to use everyday. Just like it is for people driving across. @bikejc @BikeHoboken @bikenewyork forms.office.com/Pages/Response…
#Hoboken recently submitted an application to the @BikeLeague to acquire a Bike Friendly Community status. As part of the review process, the League is asking for input from residents about cycling in Hoboken through an online survey. surveymonkey.com/r/BFC_2025
Cannot WAIT for this greenway to exist so I can simply ride my bicycle west from Jersey City.
A great example of how advocacy works! 💪 This is going to be a transformative project, and not just because I contributed one shovel of dirt towards it! 😅

Breaking ground on the first phase of the Greenway here in Newark! 🌳 The nine-mile-long linear state park will pass through eight New Jersey communities – Montclair, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, Belleville, Newark, Kearny, Secaucus, and Jersey City – creating space for walking,…
Monday night’s one hour rainfall in NYC ranked 2nd…Only behind Ida. That this happened without a tropical system is significant and shows our new reality. The top 3 wettest one hour rainfalls for NYC in the past 156 years have all happened in the past four years.
One more lane will fix it!
Flooding on the New Jersey Turnpike this evening, with nearly 9 inches of rain being recorded in parts of Union County over the last two hours. A state of emergency is in effect and a flash flood warning is in effect as well.
Maybe a 16-lane mega highway filled with impermeable concrete isn’t the best idea in a state that now has frequent and heavy downpours. Maybe we shouldn’t be planning to widen those highways any further. The @NJTurnpike is a policy failure. And @GovMurphy doubled down on it.
Live on the Jersey Turnpike
Less than 5 hours after service was suspended for 17 hours to fix a switch problem, @PATHTrain now reports a track condition near Hoboken. PATH service was operating normally for two (2) minutes this morning.
This is incredibly frustrating to countless residents who rely on @PATHTrain on weekends and reasonably expect reliable service. The @PANYNJ can & should be doing much better.
10:00 PM: HOB-33, JSQ-33 via HOB suspended. Crews continue emergency switch repair at HOB. Cross honoring on: NJT Rail/ HBLR at HOB, NWPT, EXPL, NYPS, NWK. NJT bus # 87,126, cross honoring PATH at HOB, bus #119 @ PABT to JSQ. Next update is approx. 1hr.
Remember when they said this suspension would last until the “early evening”? 🙄 It’s 9:32pm and still going…

Completely impossible to get onto the PATH from WTC. Every single car is packed like sardines. Still 4 minutes before this one even leaves. Next train is 20 minutes after that. This is intolerable. @RepSherrill, where does the PATH rank on your priority list?
So let me get this straight. The JSQ-33 line has been suspended for 2ish hours, and is expected to continue being suspended until early evening. Concurrently, the WTC line is barely functional, having its own delays. I was just there—total zoo. What a joke. We deserve better.

Oh, quick call to action! E-mail your council members and cc their aides. Tell them you support making public transit more reliable and our streets safer for everyone.
Jersey City plans to turn MLK/Ocean and Summit/Baldwin into paired one-way streets to add bus lanes to speed up transit, bike lanes to protect bikers and pedestrians, and preserve all existing on-street parking. This plan should have unanimous council support.
