The first principle is probably to reassure all the terrified parents who fear their kids EHCP’s will no longer exist & their needs will no longer be legally protected! Please do not just make cost cutting the priority here! You need to ensure their needs are met!
Here’s a radical idea…get schools and LA’s to follow the law and stop seeing parents as the problem. SEND parent here happy to meet with you!
Carefully selected parents, how many were councillors this time? Instead of cherry-picking voices, why not engage with the countless parents whose comments your PR team routinely deletes? You might actually learn something.
And your first principle needs to be retaining the existing statutory rights and protections. And BTW, parent carer forums do not speak for all parents. #notinmyname
“The legal rights to an education that meets the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities are under threat. Many thousands of children risk being denied vital provision, or losing access to education altogether.” saveourchildrensrights.org.uk/open-letter

There's lots going on in this article. Yet it's notable that some people in education are treating this SEND school experience as a revelation. The irony of being surprised at the reality of neurodivergence, whilst brutalising SEND kids in mainstream schools, is raw. ⬇️
This article on working at an SEND school should be mandatory reading for everyone working in schools.
Next: study found that removing SEND kids legal rights removed SEND kids legal rights.
Who’d have guessed it? And there seems to be disbelief it could happen 😂 #SaveOurChildrensRights #SENDNationalScandal
