NHS Renal Replacement
@NHS_RRT
Here to stop the NHS taking the piss.
This story has inspired us to help doctors across the country to negotiate for each and every extra-contractual shift. Head to doctor-ratecard.co.uk to find out how. Enough is enough. 🧵
Absolutely love to see this from my new TPD
Will someone please for the love of god tell me how skipping a decade of training and exams makes you “registrar level”. Gives new meaning to homeopathic medicine! The less training you do, the more advanced you become!
This exchange between an @AlderHey consultant and @alderheymeded highlights everything wrong with the organisation's culture that allowed a Physician Associate to work far beyond their training & perform child protection medicals. "Other specialties have it so good" @IanByrneMP
If true, a Staggering lack of insight. I have been convinced for some time that this account is a false flag designed to whip up anti-PA sentiment. I’m actually not willing to believe that anyone thinks they are infallible or haven’t made a mistake in a decade.

Thread for those who do not understand why I might be against Anaesthesia Associates or whatever they might want to call themselves. Anaesthesia is high risk area - one colleague used to say my job involves giving sublethal doses of dangerous drugs & wakening you up at the end.
Objectively one of the funniest tweets I have ever read. Kudos Mr. Li. Kudos.
The dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed.
This is the problem with getting high on your own supply. Nobody is buying this anymore because it is entirely non credible. There are arguments to be made for PAs, but claiming they have 5 years relevant training is just nonsense.
The dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed.
Didn’t realise the budget cuts meant the NHS was going to be economical with the truth
I take referrals all the time. There is a clear difference between a complex chat about risk with a GP or Med reg who calls me and a non medical trained person where I just say "Sure send them in" as I often have no idea what is going on. It is very different.
A year ago AoMRC President was asked what kinds of procedures PAs would do. Her answer:- "Simple things like taking blood, putting cannulas, ways of gaining access into patients, sometimes doing ECGs, tracings of the heart, that kind of thing". drive.google.com/file/d/1sDxEXo…
This is performative. Nothing more. Nothing less.
We’re looking forward to seeing all of these activities this week! 🎉 🙌 #SpeakUpWeek
Vital that the colleges recognise the vital role they now need to play!

Regulatory capture is a type of corruption that occurs when a regulator or policymaker is influenced by the interests of a small group, such as an industry, lobbying group, profession, or geographic area, instead of the public interest
This is seriously unbelievable.
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: NHS children’s hospital let physician associate examine abuse victims Alder Hey Children's Hospital tonight admits PA was removed from safeguarding team over concerns that their findings would not stand in court. telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/3…
What is just so absent is the colleges and the PA leaders are never presenting the argument for PAs None No one tells us what they are good for why they are better than a doctor SILENCE What do patients get with folks with 20% of the training It is not safety @parthaskar
Doctors are speaking up. Over and over again. But you belittle, dismiss & ignore our concerns about doctors being replaced by PAs - & refuse to publish the results of your public survey on the issue. This is repressing, not promoting, speaking up. It’s the antithesis of candour.

Just to point out, that this isn’t regulation. This would be an example in fact of deregulating an industry. If you keep a list of names, and tell employers they can use them however they like, that isn’t regulation.
The planned regulation by the GMC of PAs will leave local employers to decide what exactly PAs will be doing, as with nursing associates. Another example here of why local employers can't be trusted:
Seeing the regulator actively troll the profession is absolutely incredible. 3 massive U-turns from royal colleges, bereaved family members having to raise concerns to the press because no one is listening, doctors presenting hard evidence via FOI.

Resignation Statement Last month I resigned from the council of the BMA in a dispute over proposed financial support to Anaesthetists United in their landmark legal case against the GMC. 🧵
'She thought she was a doctor.' Marion and Brendan's daughter died as a direct result of being treated by a Physician Associate when she thought she was seeing a doctor. Emily had a blood clot in her calf but was sent away with a beta blocker & a diagnosis of long Covid. She…
This isn’t just bad policy, this is insanity. @wesstreeting
Is the truth finally emerging? @AlderHey corporate risk register 👇 "There is a risk that Child Protection (CP) Medical Examinations completed by Physician Associates (PAs) may not result in successful prosecution due PAs not being recognised as 'Professional Witnesses'."
I will be writing to @AlderHey seeking clarity on the use of physician associates within the trust.
It is hard to overstate how concerning this is. @AlderHey appears to be using physician associates - not doctors - to see children independently in surgical outpatient clinics. No medical degree. No post-grad paediatric qualifications. Just PAs, “flying solo” on your kids.
