🔴NEW: Emails show @gmcuk lobbied the government (@DHSCgovuk) to fund its legal defence against bereaved parents & @AnaesUnited The legal action challenges @gmcuk's failure to distinguish between doctors & physician associates or set a 'scope of practice' for PAs @wesstreeting

"We do not accept the recommendations of the Leng Review" says PA Group. And that is why AU are fighting for the GMC to enforce a defined scope of practice. Please help us achieve our target crowdjustice.com/case/stop-misl…
My 6 year old throws more constructive tantrums than this Every time @UMAPsUK issues a press release it makes the ongoing employability & feasibility of assistants more problematic It really is time PA’s found a constructive spokesperson to work with the medical profession
The introduction of Physician Associates in the NHS has raised serious concerns among some of our members. We support several changes the Leng Review has proposed, but there's still work to be done to define how PAs work with our specialties. Read more: rcr.ac.uk/news-policy/la…
Hm. Some RCP council members tried to block the EGM. "Others suggested that providing the petitioners with clear responses to the points made in the proposed motion could help the RCP to avoid calling an EGM which, if not managed carefully, could pose its own reputational risks"
Thank you to Council @RCPhysicians for confirming decision of Censors. Not unexpected given that same Council voted FOR Associate Membership for PAs-even after #RCPEGM -and got halted by me exposing that in public. To the appeal next. And then next steps. And there are so many…
Physician associates should be banned from diagnosing and seeing untriaged patients, a govt review has found: thetimes.com/article/19cf84…
The @lengreview tells @gmcuk they must revise Good Medical Practice "to provide distinct categories for PAs and AAs" Wasn't this @TheBMA's argument? Using the same standards for doctors and associates (under the term 'medical professionals') is confusing for everyone.

The @lengreview recommends an IMMEDIATE name change from "physician associate" to "physician assistant" No further "physician associate" jobs should be advertised. NHS trusts should begin implementing this change to provide clarity to patients.

Update on the @PublicHealthW 'Physician Associate in Infection' role 👇 Interesting comment: "Microbiology/Infection is not an appropriate specialty for FY1 posts". Does a PA require more or less supervision than a FY1 doctor?
Another job posted before @lengreview report. @PublicHealthW is recruiting a Physician Associate in Infection. Despite no prescribing rights, the PA will give "clinical advice" on "difficult and complex" cases. Consultant funding may have been diverted to create this PA post 👇
🚨 NEW: Freedom of Information request shows the Leng Review (@lengreview) has cost £200k so far. Meanwhile, @NHSEngland has already spent £62m training PAs/AAs. Maybe they should have reviewed the evidence first, before spending tens of millions? Source: @DHSCgovuk

🧵 THREAD: Physician Associates assessing ADHD at SWYPFT – what’s really going on? Mike raises serious concerns, and he’s right to.
South West Yorkshire NHS Trust (@allofusinmind) employs 12 Physician Associates in its ADHD service They can't prescribe or diagnose ("PAs do not provide diagnoses"). Only 5 are @gmcuk registered Still, they assessed 435 new patients in the last 12 months. Doctors saw just 82!
