BIG PERSONAL NEWS: Jimmy V once said, “Don’t ever give up, Don’t ever give up” Yes, this photo is me at an @NCState game. I’m honored to announce that I’ve accepted a spring transfer offer to NC State to continue my education career at one of the best universities in the country.

Global models have generally become less enthusiastic about development in the MDR next week. There's a window for something to spin up as the wave interacts with the ITCZ, but unless it can generate a lot of convection and tighten/maintain the vorticity (spin), it seems like the…
Still pretty quiet overall in the Atlantic...a tropical wave in the ITCZ has some spin to it, but is pretty convectively-challenged overall. GFS shows a little bit of development as it approaches the Caribbean islands, while the ECMWF shows very little. ECMWF and its ensemble…
This has been a long time coming. NWS is finally exempt, and the positions are classified as public safety. Meteorologist jobs are expected to be posted soon. I appreciate everyone fighting for this. Thank you, @NC_Governor and @NCAGO, who have been working with me to advocate!!
NWS is hiring! The first of several top-priority, mission-critical positions posted Friday on USAJobs.gov! Others will follow soon. Visit and search “NWS” to learn more.
If you think I've forgotten about the hurricane satellites, think again. The Navy is permanently unplugging them this week, on the brink of the busiest stretch of the season. There's so much more to this story, and I have the latest scoop. ⬇️ michaelrlowry.substack.com/p/navy-set-to-…
A robust easterly wave will emerge off Africa over the next 24 hours into a less than ideal enviornment for tropical development. Reliable guidance doesn't do much with it and even NHC has not outlooked it as of the time of this post. Looks like we could get a frontal wave in…
@EthanClarkWX Sunset beneath a veil of rain. Topsail Island. #ncwx
Sea surface temperatures, sensed by satellite, show lower 80s near shore to mid 80s in the Gulf Stream. It'll be interesting to see how these values change over the next several days of 95-100 degree heat. #ncwx #scwx #ilmwx
⛈️🌀 With peak Atlantic #HurricaneSeason starting mid-August, @BrunswickGovt is encouraging all #BrunsCo community members to stay informed by registering for the #ReadyBrunswick Emergency Notification System. Details: ow.ly/MzRV50Wvz9w The ReadyBrunswick system will…
Nothing says the Tropical Atlantic has Hadley Cell problems quite like seeing the warmest mean SSTs up at 30N (even outside the Gulf!) 🤢
North Carolina, we’re looking at another weekend of extreme heat and likely heat advisories across the state. If you can, make plans to keep cool indoors. If you need to be outside, make sure to stay hydrated.
Pretty decent agreement between the GFS and ECMWF for a strong wave to develop some over the MDR next week as it interacts with the ITCZ. Factors favoring development: -The wave seems pretty low latitude initially with a solid moisture field. -A Kelvin Wave/MJO pulse moving in…
Today, I visited Sanford and had a great tour with the mayor and the Downtown Sanford leader. I am determined to connect with the people and places I serve on my weather page. North Carolina’s Weather Authority, I am looking at new way to connect with weather forecasting. #ncwx

You know what, fuck it Here’s my Atlantic Hurricane Season forecast. Wish I had the time to write down and organize all the things & little tidbits that went into this, but time has not been on my side lately
It's disappointing major weather media groups that exist off NOAA/NWS data have been deafeningly silent about federal staffing hits and proposed cuts to NOAA. No letters of support. No news reporting on their detrimental effects to forecasting. Just glaring editorial omission. 🧵
Texas was there for North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, @GregAbbott_TX, deploying K-9 units, supporting for our emergency operations centers, and coordinating with volunteer organizations for disaster recovery efforts. I am proud North Carolina was able to play a small role in…
Thank you to @NC_Governor and the people of North Carolina. North Carolina’s K-9 team is providing critical support to Texas’ recovery efforts following deadly flooding.
Thank you for visiting, Ethan! Islanders can learn more about hurricane preparedness, view the video of the Village's recent Hurricane Preparedness forum, and listen to the associated podcast episode here: villagebhi.org/departments-se…
I had a great visit today with @VillageBHI Public Safety Department. We discussed severe weather/hurricane preparedness and how the coast is getting ready. I enjoyed touring the station and checking out the new trucks! Now is the time to be prepared! #ncwx
Ever wonder why it’s cooler in the mountains? 70s at 4,000-5,000 ft today and 90s down in the Piedmont. #ncwx @wfmy
In case you’re curious, it’s 74° at Rough Ridge, NC right now. #ncwx
