It's Cost Improvement Programme season in NHS Trusts. Departments are scrabbling to please organisational leadership by upping their budgetary efficiency. Let's use the Job Evaluation Handbook and save some money! TL;DR: you're overpaying your PAs. Long 🧵 incoming... 1/
The world: measles outbreak kills a kid in Liverpool Telegraph: let's platform an advocate of child harm
Appalled to see the Telegraph giving Aseem Malhotra a platform today. He has spread increasingly dangerous vaccine misinformation with impunity. @gmcuk’s failure to remove him from the register is every bit as appalling. A spineless dereliction of duty.
Pleased to report that the night team I am currently covering have chosen to strike in their entirety, and this particular consultant can use a computer, so no significant patient safety issues. What an absolute embarrassment. Imagine working for this lot.
Due to the failure to train consultants on a new EPR system, lack of planning and action taken by the Northern General in Sheffield, we are forced to accept a derogation for 3x resident doctors for tonight's night shift (26th July) for Acute Medicine. Protecting patient safety…
How to tell if your appointment was cancelled due to a Doctors strike Answer you can’t On a average day in the NHS hospitals cancel 50,000 appts Strikes days affect 40,000 appts, apparently🤔 Blaming the Drs for a broken system is giving Management/Govt the excuse they want
You were saying @wesstreeting ? @DHSCgovuk @BMAResidents @TheBMA
Apparently the plebs aren’t allowed champagne
That's very inspiring, Chris. What sort of champagne is your favourite? Are all doctors entitled to champagne? Are taxpayers's entitled to champagne, or is it just for doctors?
It’s not the BMA “undermining the trade union movement”. It’s a Labour Prime Minister, writing in the Murdoch press, urging junior doctors to break with their union leadership. That’s a direct attack on trade unionism. Solidarity with @TheBMA and junior doctors on strike.
Keir Starmer: Resident doctors should break ranks with the BMA leadership. The industrial action that starts on Friday is in no one’s interests and medics should not follow their union down its dangerous and destructive route, he says. thetimes.com/article/3fdcd5…
Full solidarity with our striking residents. The job is not 20% easier than it was in 2008. The nation's average salaries have recovered since then. No reason why a job this mentally and emotionally challenging deserves different. #PayRestorationNow #ResidentDoctorStrike

Prof Sikora, if we calculated your lifetime reward package and mine, would you give back the difference to the NHS/government? That way we could each contribute the same amount of vocation to the system.
The question everyone needs to ask is whether they would work for free as a doctor, and if they won't, where is the line at which their sense of vocation gives way to financial need. Or should medicine become the domain of those so wealthy they don't need paying?
1/ Kate Matharu, a GP of 25 years, told The Guardian that resident doctors striking “harms patients” and that people who put finances first “shouldn’t be in the profession.” We should talk about why this perspective is deeply flawed.
Just a technical error. Nothing serious.

NHS staff have been subjected to one of the most narcissistic idealisation-devaluation cycles imaginable. Love-bombed by claps during COVID. Now reviled. An unbelievably toxic and abusive dynamic.
It's always weird to see these bizarre claims that the committee is "hard left" or "corbynistas". This is a wave of young people aged typically between 23-35 who see Broken Britain for what it is. Raising rent, raising house prices, raising energy prices, raising leisure…
I forgot that medicine only happens during the morning ward round and not at any other time of day
Actually they do. You're misrepresenting the truth about that just as the BMA do salaries. FY1 aren't qualified to prescribe. Treatment regimens are decided in ward rounds or supervision, certainly not by you. Foundation doctors spend only four months per specialty. They know zip
Astonishingly, this is England. Weekend away at a vineyard with @hlnewey 🍷🍷🍷🍷🥂🥂🥂🥂

The whole economy got similar awards and yet Drs in general are still way behind. You’ve got full tax restoration, show us the journey to full pay restoration Wes.
We negotiated and delivered pay rises worth 28.9%. This year’s pay award was the highest in the entire public sector. We cannot afford to re-open that pay award. I have offered talks without any preconditions. The BMA is refusing. Unreasonable. Unnecessary.
Apparently, criticising your College in public threatens too many honours list nominations to be acceptable. I hope the membership team @RCPEdin are ready for the onslaught of new members and fellows.
FINALLY- Decision @RCPhysicians investigation Removal from the Council of an elected member Barring standing for elections 12 months By a panel which is unknown - with zero right to reply. (To be ratified by Council on 15/7) For exposing chicanery around PAs by senior…
