Absolutely overwhelmed and delighted to accept an @NIHRresearch Academic Clinical Fellowship in Neurosurgery. Getting here has been a journey, and would have been completely impossible without the support of my friends, colleagues and mentors. Now the real work starts! 🧠

Want to get more confident with the drill? Our Drills & Skills Course is back at Queen Square on Saturday, 15th November 2025! A full day of hands-on practice in basic cranial and spinal procedures. Use the QR code to register 😎🧠
The question everyone needs to ask is whether they would work for free as a doctor, and if they won't, where is the line at which their sense of vocation gives way to financial need. Or should medicine become the domain of those so wealthy they don't need paying?
1/ Kate Matharu, a GP of 25 years, told The Guardian that resident doctors striking “harms patients” and that people who put finances first “shouldn’t be in the profession.” We should talk about why this perspective is deeply flawed.
An extremely warm welcome to our new ST3s Max Dewhurst, Emily Boother, Siddarth Raj, Peggy Miller and Aniket Bharadwaj. They will be joining the Royal London rotation in October.
That is the lesson of the entire saga. When someone tells you 'this is just how it is' - push back, ask for the evidence and make them stand up and say it in public. It's unnerving quite how wrong some of these people have been.
For years, doctors were shafted and told “this is just how it is.” Then a new role was handed better pay, hours, and support overnight The frustration isn’t hard to understand Doctors have long felt undervalued despite being the backbone of care The NHS needs to wake up
There's years of mandated rotation, experience and exams between me and a haematology reg post as a doctor, as someone already 4 years qualified. Meanwhile, here, experience of haem patients desirable.
To say that I am shocked about this job advert is is an understatement @nottmhospitals I hope you realise how complex and vulnerable Haem patients are, and how utterly dangerous this is, letting medically unqualified people play registrar in an extremely complex speciality 1/
So we ask, what will be the consequences for trusts that knowingly used PAs as substitutes for doctors, despite GMC AND NHSE guidance that this was inappropriate? Presumably nothing, because this is the NHS - but an FOI series would be illuminating.
It also confirmed hospitals have used them as substitutes for drs...no surprise there. Hospitals have been doing same with nursing associates for years, as with many other lesser trained roles. This is taskification of care, now Govt policy in NHS 10 year plan #patientsafety

I forgot that medicine only happens during the morning ward round and not at any other time of day
Actually they do. You're misrepresenting the truth about that just as the BMA do salaries. FY1 aren't qualified to prescribe. Treatment regimens are decided in ward rounds or supervision, certainly not by you. Foundation doctors spend only four months per specialty. They know zip
This saga does have me reflecting on what College seniors would do if a political party they didn't align with came to power. Under those circumstances, how closely would they tow party lines? Would Colleges rubber-stamp destructive policy to stay in the tent?

Everyone should remember how RCP behaved. Those actively trying to fool the membership faced no sanction, and those that speak up for patients and colleagues get removed. It's embarrassing on the global stage of medicine.

In this week's video, TEQ research intern @AapanSanchit takes us through his patient-centric work on the reporting of non-critical symptoms following neurosurgery! #neurosurgery #PROMs
Hi all, we have funding for two resident doctors- post fy2-st6 to a Hpb medical oncology clinical research fellowship in Birmingham. They would do our clinical trials clinic, a standard of care clinic and have two research days a week. Please let any suitable trainees know.
The results are in: we have a clear mandate to strike. More than 90% of you who voted in our ballot, voted YES. You’ve made it clear: enough is enough. Our fight for full #PayRestoration for resident doctors in England continues.
I'm pleased to see more GEM courses opening, and ringfencing for existing HCPs looking to train is a nice positive. Wonder what effect might be of separating HCP streams and the biomed-grad cohort, if any difference in outcomes etc
They seem to have made an easy way out for PAs . No need to work for A grades anymore . kcl.ac.uk/study/undergra…
