Caffeinated Sceptic
@Chonkubine
Thunkin thoughts that don't affect me, to avoid the ones that do.
This is super cool, I've my own journey but feel free to ask me questions about this particularly if you have any philosophical or scientific or any objections/refinement
Mind-boggling 🤯 Lady with sunglasses: Do you care more about helping Americans or immigrants? Mehdi: Immigrants are Americans, I'm an immigrant and I'm American Lady with sunglasses: Immigrants are not Americans, Americans are the people born here Mehdi: That's not true..…
Maybe the modeled theirs after the American system but it’s absolutely not the same structure. My bf had labrynthitis from an abscess and told me he had to call the ER ahead of time to tell them he was coming and then was turned away after only seeing a nurse. That wouldn’t happe
If UK residents didn’t rotate consultants might recognise them as members of the same profession and perhaps give the slightest shit about them That would be disastrous for our glorious employer and its apparatchiks
No problem with them calling themselves consultant or Monsignor or Their Excellency. I have a close nurse colleague with just such a title. But the issue is documentation suggesting they are a senior doctor responsible for the patient. Or giving that impression
We should talk about the the inevitable q of how this mess happened. Prof Leng stated her review wouldn’t dwell on it. This is within her gift - the review is hard enough to land despite sticking to its precise question. But the question of how this happened cannot be ignored 1/
So I want to talk about the GMC, and its role in where we are. Brief history: GMC was set up in 1858 to ensure standards of medical education/practice/conduct were high enough for public safety They were to safeguard people against quackery. Please think on this definition 3/
GMC thinks public safety isn’t a legal obligation, ignored multiple safety concerns, obstructed medical experts, blurred role distinctions, and can’t define med practice. They enabled PAs to work dangerously & didn’t assess skills/courses. Are they fit for purpose? 18/
Feeling very let down by scabbing registrars this week. Not striking is bad enough put picking up extra locum nights??? Have some shame pls
This is why @wesstreeting wants to flood the NHS with medically unqualified, unregulated ACPs . To replace Drs on drs Rotas YES , I said unregulated, @nmcnews @The_HCPC etc don’t regulate ACPs practising medicine .
Anyone can be included in free text of a DATIX. Issues are multiple - unless stratified by professional group as a category then likely contributes to deflating incidence in the stats. Trusts also do not often release free texts even if they can search them and confirm a DATIX…
🚨 FAO Physician Assistants When I spoke to Prof Leng, she told me many doctors felt that PAs could have a really important role assisting doctors in the NHS. I agreed, and added my voice to what I still believe is a strong case for an assistant role, which I believe could be…
This is disturbing I hear there are PAs who are critical of Nash & his @UMAPsUK NEC who have supposedly infiltrated every PA group & silenced any PA voices critical of them🥺 They feel Nash doesn’t represent them, but has been given voice on national stage due to his“links” 1/n
Genuine question, what does a PA offer that a doctor does not?
Cancer patients await their fate, from scan to scan. In ignorance and without a say. Then, weeks later, they discover an MDT has made some decision. Everyone bereaved by cancer relives the horror of this process. We must find a better way. @Maherjane @scserendipity1
I think we also need to be honest about the cost multiplier that is the MDT. Decisions that used to be made by one or two people relatively quickly, now require a wait for a mass meeting. Many, if not most, are dysfunctional. Very few operate as outlined in the original research
