Last week I was in Kyiv, #Ukraine, as a guest speaker at the Ukrainian Tax Reform & Anti-Corruption Summit. The goal of the Summit was to provide Ukrainian leaders with best practices on how to reform their tax system, strengthen the economy, and get their fiscal house in order.

Great piece by Boz. The Nationals are not a shopping mall and should not be run like one.
Boz! “The Lerner family either should run the Washington Nationals properly or sell the team.” washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/07…
It is time to revisit the need for the mortgage interest deduction. MID gets priced into the cost of homes making home ownership less affordable, especially in urban areas. Trump Can’t Ignore Our Housing Crisis by William A. Galston wsj.com/opinion/trump-… via @WSJopinion
It's subtle, but if you look very closely at this chart, you can see the exact moment when Trump announced the Japan trade "deal" that prioritizes imported cars over American car manufacturing

💡What is bonus depreciation? Bonus depreciation allows firms to deduct a larger portion of certain “short-lived” investments in new or improved technology, equipment, or buildings in the first year. Allowing businesses to write off more investments partially alleviates a bias…
In 2022 the major college sports leagues (Big 10, Big 12, NCAA etc.) collectively earned $𝟑.𝟑 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 in program service revenues—mostly TV rights—all of which is untaxed. hubs.ly/Q03xCNWz0
Just Out: Updated version of the "Chart of the Century" with data through June 2025. It should be noted that the consumer goods that have become more and more affordable over time -- e.g., cars, household furnishings, clothing, toys and TVs -- are either imported or subject to…
I was proud to be one of the expert speakers at the Money Show Masters Symposium today. Great program.

Ouch. Unforced error.
In case there was any doubt about what the current mix of tariff hikes and tax cuts will do to the economy, it's close to a wash, netting about +0.4% on GDP over the long run before accounting for retaliation.
Without a doubt the expensing provisions are the best elements of the OBBBA. Quite an achievement. 👇
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act makes permanent one of the most pro-growth tax policies available: 100% bonus depreciation and R&D expensing permanent.
Kudos to the Senate for voting to cancel funding for public broadcasting. If ever there was an anachronism in today’s world of streaming services, more than 1,700 television networks, 3.5 million podcasts, and endless entertainment options, NPR and PBS are Dodos.
Great slogan. I love it. No, corporate welfare isn't socially responsible, nor is it fiscally responsible.
👉Corporate welfare isn't socially responsible👈 That's the main point of a new report from @RichardMorrison and myself published today by @ceidotorg. In it, we propose a new way to think about interactions between governments & businesses in the name of "economic development."
Full Expensing for most depreciable property - DONE. Next up - Structures!
Tax fact: The Rosetta Stone, our key to unlocking the meaning of hieroglyphics, was mostly a tax document that explained new tax laws decreed in 196 BCE.
“There were many options that they could have taken to reduce the deficit impact of extending these tax cuts, but they chose not to, and that's really unfortunate.” Earlier this week, AV Tax and Fiscal Policy Fellow @scottahodge joined @JulieMasonShow1 on @siriusxmpotus to talk…
15 Major Problems with the Senate Reconciliation Bill-2025-07-02 crfb.org/blogs/15-major…
This is kind of like following a healthy workout in the gym with a beer and a cigarette.
One reason non-partisan estimates are finding the reconciliation bill won't do much for growth: higher debt from the bill swamps its pro-growth provisions. Interest ALONE on the add'l debt from the bill would almost outpace the cost of the bill's most pro-growth provisions.
Earlier this month, 37 House Republicans demanded that any additional tax cuts be matched with dollar-to-dollar spending reductions. Unfortunately, the Senate-passed OBBB falls well short of this standard. smucker.house.gov/media/press-re…
Well, this chart certainly debunks the rhetoric that OBBB is just giving tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires. It just won't stop the rhetoric.
Distributional look at OBBB, but by separating out TCJA. Here's share of taxes paid by income group under current law vs share of relief from TCJA and OBBB separately. TCJA mainly mirrored existing tax burden. OBBB tax policy is much more progressive.
The Nationals announced a jersey sponsorship deal with AARP. This is the second “nonprofit” to sponsor a DC sports team following Northwest Federal CU’s $7+million deal with the Commanders. Let’s get real. If a "nonprofit" can afford to sponsor a sports team, it can pay income…
