The starting salary for a new consultant in Australia is ~£200K a year. My salary as a registrar in Australia averaged £90-100K a year. And this is for working 10 hours less a week as a resident; with generous study budgets; and a system which fundamentally respects the role of…
It’s not the BMA “undermining the trade union movement”. It’s a Labour Prime Minister, writing in the Murdoch press, urging junior doctors to break with their union leadership. That’s a direct attack on trade unionism. Solidarity with @TheBMA and junior doctors on strike.
Keir Starmer: Resident doctors should break ranks with the BMA leadership. The industrial action that starts on Friday is in no one’s interests and medics should not follow their union down its dangerous and destructive route, he says. thetimes.com/article/3fdcd5…

No worries Lord Bethell. Drs are unable to accept gifts of anything more than nominal value (£15) lest it affect their clinical judgement. How about you decline anything more than nominal gifts (£15) lest it affect your judgement when it comes to voting in the public interest.
If you were paid £9000 less than your assistant, you’d be on strike too. Doctors aren’t asking for our pay to be restored in one go. But even if it was, we would STILL start on less than our assistants do.
The pay discrepancy between resident doctors and physician assistants really rankles and is part of the reason they are willing to strike.

Just finished nights where we had zero catheters in ED, no working MRI, no aciclovir available for my patient, and skeletal nursing and HCA staffing. I had to scour three stores for a blue cannula… But no… difficult conditions because of the strikes 🤡 #FullPayRestoration
"We did not need to be in this position. These strikes were unnecessary." @WesStreeting explains why 👇 Watch his message to NHS staff continuing to work during strikes.
Utterly disgraceful remarks from @wesstreeting These doctors are the backbone of our NHS Their real pay is down 20% compared to 2008 It's time they were treated with the respect and dignity they deserve

NEW: @wesstreeting has been slammed by several trade union general secretaries after claiming doctors' strikes undermine the trade union movement. 'Don't question the mandate of the doctors when your own constituents came within a whisker of removing you.'
Doctors DON’T have a final salary pension Doctors DON’T get their exams paid for Doctors DON’T get overtime Doctors DON’T get their equipment paid for Doctors DO pay for their own training Doctors DO pay for their own stationary Doctors DO earn less now than 2008 in real terms
seems like a lot of people who wonder why we don't build these anymore don't actually like seeing the gov spend billions on construction
Scottish ‘junior’ Doctors accepted a pay offer 2023 with no strikes ▪️12.4% 2023 ▪️inflation beating pay rises for 3yrs ▪️commitment to full pay restoration ▪️removal from “independent” pay review body The Govt listened & talked to the BMA🤷🏻♂️ Imagine a Govt willing to negotiate
Now do from 2008…..
