Honestly, the way this wonderful, ethical woman—who’s put herself out there to fight for disabled rights—is being framed as a hard-left extremist says everything about Starmer and what Labour has become. Nothing about her. All about power and its misuse.
"As a Labour Party member for over 34 years, I could not be more committed to the Party, one that upholds the values of equality and justice." #York For my full statement see my website, link in comments👇
People don’t seem to realise the slope with assisted dying. Yes, it’s a noble idea. But, once that legislative line is crossed, laws like this don’t stay narrow. The 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘦 will become a 𝙙𝙪𝙩𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙞𝙚. ✍️ Me @CatholicHerald thecatholicherald.com/article/the-qu…
Yesterday, I challenged the Work & Pensions Secretary over the failure to consult disabled people before announcing the biggest benefit cuts in a decade. PIP is an in-work benefit—those most affected must be heard. Reform should start with inclusion, not exclusion.…
Thanks to Baroness Bennett of Manor Castle @natalieben who has tabled a 'Motion of Regret' on the #binUCbill It cannot stop it, but it allows Peers to show their opposition to this attack on disabled people. lordsbusiness.parliament.uk/ItemOfBusiness…
And the Universal Credit bill has passed. Some of the sickest people in the country will suffer needlessly more now. There is no justification, no excuse. Just ugly, cruel choices by ministers too cowardly to tax the wealthy rather than cut the poor. A shameful day for Labour.
333 labour MPs just voted for a bill that will cut £2bn from the welfare state. Only 47 Labour MPs voted against. These were the 47⬇️

Tonight a Labour government voted to slash £2 billion from some of the poorest people in our society. They sip drinks at Mastercard HQ while disabled people are pushed to food banks. I know I speak for millions when I say: we won't take this anymore.
Nadia Whittome saying what we all feel when 'PIP fraud rates' are brought up...🤣 #BinUCBill @NadiaWhittomeMP
Today, the Government's welfare changes return to Parliament. After that, they are ‘expected to be certified as a Money Bill’. But what does that mean? In short: Money Bills face considerably less scrutiny. Today may be the last chance for amendments. publiclawproject.org.uk/blog/what-is-a…
"When you take away central support, you don't reduce costs, you shift them onto the NHS, local authorities, unpaid carers and working-class communities. Despite hard won concessions, this bill remains an assault on Disabled people" 🗣️@KimJohnsonMP
No matter what, a vote for the #UCandPIPBill today means: ❌ £2bn worth of cuts to disabled people's incomes ❌ 50,000 people being pushed into poverty ❌ 750,000 low-income sick and disabled people losing £3k per year I will vote against it.
Me in @politicshome about how every single time MPs vote it really does matter. That’s why I will vote against the UC & PIP Bill next week. 👇
So much focus on the increase in disability with no thought for the root causes: letting the pandemic run through our society, underfunding the NHS, pushing many into poverty, no affordable or accessible housing...
Deirdre Costigan claiming we are an international outlier, with a larger increase in sickness benefits than other countries. Perhaps it's because we are living through a pandemic that, through disastrous state handling, has led to the long-term disabling of thousands?
