Anaesthetist with interest in ICU, paeds, and TIVA. Unapologetically AuDHD.
My entry for the @SIVATrainees #SIVA24 infographic competition. Is there one model to rule them all? Well tbh I think it doesn't matter all that much, as long as you know your model well! You can find a more detailed explanation on my website: hibalazs.net/anaesthesia/TC…

Main reason for issues over pay is that Tories failed to maintain pay instead letting it fall 20-35% Labour wouldn’t be in dispute I wonder what the gain is from keeping pay of all NHS staff lower, as retention of UK trained staff becomes a huge problem leading to worse care
During all of these years we had ‘public support’. Having a work force whose pay roughly keeps pace with others in the economy, comparator professions and competitor countries is in the public’s interest.

This won’t affect you @BerkayUlkerPA as you were only doing the admin , right ? Well done @ASiTofficial The Wild West #paproject is ending , speciality by speciality @UMAPsUK
I hope this is what UMAP's members & their profession want. That is if a union however misguided, is representing how their members feel, I get it. I hope it isn't a miscalculated response out of frustration. I can promise you it's not how BMA & AU litigation worked.
UMAPs have apparently issued a Pre Action letter to @wesstreeting & Prof Leng @lengreview “Leng Review recommendations which apparently seek to address grievances of Resident Doctors than safety of MAPs” No mention of safety of patients umaps.org.uk/umaps-seeks-ju…
Wikipedia’s legal case was heard at the Royal Court of Justice on July 22-23, and a ruling is expected within a month or so. However, if their legal arguments are rejected and they refuse to implement Category 1 rules, the UK government could block access to Wikipedia entirely.
If consultants are refusing to come in, that’s squarely on them. BMA can’t be seen to put safety at risk irrespective of whether the root cause is a consultant refusal or Trusts inadequately staffing.
And yet consultants have refused to come in - apparently due to their discomfort with the EPR. We have told the trust to invoke business continuity and use paper if the EPR is such a significant blocker, rejecting further requests for derogations.
More misleading commentary on @nhs_pensions The current liability of 457bn was was in fact 841bn in only 2022 👇 In other news the pension scheme will return a *SURPLUS* of 6bn to treasury this year *alone*
@SteveBakerFRSA Todays NHS Pension accounts, page 15: "As at 31 March 2025 the pension liabilities of the Scheme were valued at £457.2 billion. This is an increase of £26.2 billion from the liabilities at 31 March 2024 of £431.0 billion. As the NHS Pension Scheme is an unfunded…
Doctors' assistants are earning almost 47% more than a fully qualified doctor in London. Even with full pay restoration, doctors would still be earning less than their assistants. Paying doctors £22.67/hr would still be a bargain for this country.
Badenoch’s Paradox Far too important to strike But simultaneously not important enough to pay properly Get a grip @KemiBadenoch
Doctors hold lives in their hands. No one should lose critical healthcare because of strikes but that’s what’s happening now. That’s why a Conservative government led by me would ban doctors’ strikes, just like we do the army and police.
Those who are angry at BMA for granting derogations have to consider how much this proves the post below. Despite role substitutes, NHS hasn’t been able to function without RDs. So maybe time @wesstreeting pays RDs properly rather than expecting BMA to rescue hospitals.
Without Resident Doctors? The #NHS cannot function. Seniors are paralysed especially when it comes to running wards. And doing electives. And most other things. However much anyone tries to portray otherwise Value them. The NHS progresses. #SundayTweet

As the wind blows? so do the strong convictions of PA leaders Fastest U- turn I’ve ever seen! Man even changed his bio to ASSISTANT accepting the Leng recommendations Change it back fella , be consistent Quote: ‘And to clarify-its Physician Assistant. No apostrophe s. 😊’
Why is patient safety a priority only for doctors but not the NHS trusts?
There’s bad news for you too, Jim. In 2008 an iPhone cost about £300 (£580 now). The iPhone 17 is expected to cost around £900 in the UK. This means it will be about 55% more expensive for you to "lose" your phone to avoid scrutiny for your dodgy dealings. Enjoy the fizz.
So if you and a doctor bought 10 bottles of champagne in 2018, the doctor (an essential member of society) would now be able to buy 7, while you (serving no function in society whatsoever) could get your grubby mitts on 23. But… (4/5)
Fire Brigades Union Statement in solidarity with striking doctors
It’s a very odd statement t, I agree. Especially given that the Leng Report has suggested RCoA use the existing scope to determine future pathways for AAs. She hasn’t said the scope is too restrictive or problematic (which may or may not make Massey sad), but to use it.
Just finished nights where we had zero catheters in ED, no working MRI, no aciclovir available for my patient, and skeletal nursing and HCA staffing. I had to scour three stores for a blue cannula… But no… difficult conditions because of the strikes 🤡 #FullPayRestoration
"We did not need to be in this position. These strikes were unnecessary." @WesStreeting explains why 👇 Watch his message to NHS staff continuing to work during strikes.
Very important question & glad it's being asked. There can be no accountability for spending if it's not being monitored & reported. It's not being done for a reason. But it's allocated *for* specific reasons. It should be used for that.
Where is the money? The HE&T Tariff 💵 Over £1 billion to fund the training of resident doctors and medical students. ❓Is it being wasted or used to cover service deficits? 🧾 We need basic mandatory financial reporting and quality assurance. FHJ: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Shame Labour can't do the same with resident doctor strikes. 🤷
Previous governments sought a trade deal with India. They could not agree one. The Labour Government negotiated and agreed the deal, signed today. It will benefit the UK economy and give us access to a huge market, growing in power and prosperity. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
