Professor @UCSD on a quest to understand why some, but not all, become addicted to drugs. Proud papa of 9🐶 3🐢10🐓3🐹 dz🐠& 2🚶♂️. Rants are my own.
A postdoc position is available in the lab. If you want to study the dark side of addiction and like tacos and warm weather this may be for you. If you dislike unhealthy competition and love team work then you might be the one I am looking for. oliviergeorge.com/single-post/20…

I cannot stress this enough: pairing a 4% funding line with the largest cut in NCI history will devastate the future of cancer research - and patients. We would be turning our backs on decades of progress.
Wow. Just wow. The death of cancer research funding 💔

Wow indeed! 7 years ago we showed that gpr139 could be targeted to reduce hyperalgesia and alcohol drinking in animal models but had no idea what the ligand was. Incredible findings and it makes a lot of sense now. Really cool

I have six great ideas worthy of funding before breakfast.
I refuse to believe that any scientist has more than 6 great ideas worthy of funding per year. Most would maybe have 1 every 3-5 years. Quality > Quantity.
My hunch about the new NIH policy: I bet it won't fix pay lines or reduce the number of apps in a significant manner. Most PIs are already under 6, & the prolific ones will find workarounds....hello Co-I! (but it's a good thing that may promote junior PI). Plus, it might…
Wow, I'm not often speechless, but today I am.

And in this case highlighting crucial sex differences and female-specific biology related to stress effects on the brain and behavior as well as the essential importance of using mouse models to understand pathology observed in humans. @ornaissler @SinaiBrain
This speaks to the importance of cross-species research that is constantly forward & back-translated between the clinic & lab. The importance of animal models leading to unanticipated discoveries - even in the realm of human psychology - is invaluable, especially in #psychiatry🧠
