@nquinoneso and @implosian made a logo for our lab and it's incredible. I can't get over it

I feel like if Hulk Hogan had the chance to take my Intro to Sociology course that it would have changed him. Even at 70, he could have learned a lot and surely contributed to class discussion. Somewhat of a missed opportunity, but I’m grateful to have the students I do.
To @TomKnightSynBio's point, there was a lot of (premature) excitement and many of us were all in.
You, and seemingly the world, forget that AI was a very hot topic in the 1980s. We were in a technology battle with Japan's Fifth Generation computer effort, and expert systems, for most everything, were the rage.
I could not be more excited to finally announce that my lab will be moving to The Wistar Institute in Philadelphia in early September! While this is somewhat of a homecoming for me, it is a new adventure for the 6 lab members moving with me!
Static vs. cidal: it’s not complex; it’s simply incorrect @BradSpellberg @DrToddLee @ABsteward doi.org/10.1128/aac.00…
New talk screenshot just dropped
The Static/Cidal letter to the editor at AAC made Google News! First time I’ve ever seen that happen to a letter to the editor—must be a ton of people reading it!
I invite you to read this tweet, then @drugmonkeyblog’s on Duke dealing salary cuts to those not meeting extramural “expectations.”
5 percentile grant, I was suggested to re-submit...which I will, I guess.
I’d like to announce I’m back on this app but since I don’t pay for premium, it will be seen by 4 people. Anyway to those 4 people, I captured something amazing this month 🐻
How do plasmids kickstart gene expression in new hosts? Our new review in Plasmid: “Strategies for zygotic gene expression during plasmid establishment” with Nathan Fraikin (@tacc_c lab). Part of the #ISPB2024 special issue (Hamamatsu, Japan)🧵1/6 doi.org/10.1016/j.plas…
It’s July 20th, the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969 — I hope for all of science and humanity that we, as a civilization, continue to dream and aspire. As JFK said: “We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other…
“The arc of history is long, and it bends toward” *flips through history book* Oh. Oh no. Oh no no no
Happy to share this work, led by Olek Pisera, on dialing in a wide range of copy numbers for the orthogonal plasmid of OrthoRep. We used this ability to study how plasmid copy number influences evolutionary outcomes. nature.com/articles/s4155…
Had a great chat with @fiftyyears telling the @plasmidsaurus story for their new Happy Warriors series. At Caltech, I was so frustrated with the stagnant DNA sequencing industry that I started a company out of my garage. Now we accelerate science around the globe, every day.
For a platform therapeutics company as technologically rich and fast-moving as Manifold Bio, a website is always just a snapshot in time. But I’m especially excited about this one. Our goal was to capture the scale of the tissue-targeted medicines opportunity and the uniquely…
We're live! Manifold Bio's new website is here: manifold.bio Inspired? We're growing—join us. Special thanks to @bunsenstudio for articulating our vision and Javelin Tea Creative (javelinteacreative.com) for capturing the spirit of our team. #Hiring
Yep this is a real crisis for early stage drug discovery in US
Everyone missed the real China story. While we debated TikTok, Chinese scientists quietly built 1,250 novel drug candidates—up from 160 in 2015. That's not a typo. They added 1,090 innovative medicines in 9 years. The entire EU added 200. Here's how they broke pharma's…
Some news....Rome is not fully burned. T32 Training Grant was officially awarded; NIH offered more support than requested to increase the # trainees in the unique program. Office chair with me in it levitated. Calling Microbiome PhD'ers to @PSUmBiome youtube.com/watch?v=hiA7Xz…
what if this was actually the peak of information technology
Are you a top US-based scientist wanting to relocate to Australia? We are now calling for formal applications from both Australian and non-Australian citizens based in the US whose work is internationally recognised as exceptional. The Academy offers a comprehensive relocation…
Excited to see another cohort of @BWFUND PDEP postdoctoral fellows. Reviewing these applications and supporting these talented scientists feels so impactful.
BWF is proud to announce the 2025 recipients of its Postdoctoral Diversity Enrichment Program (PDEP), which provides critical support to postdoctoral researchers pursuing careers in biomedical and medical research. buff.ly/RLaqMmd #bwfpdep
Regardless of where you stand on DEI, we all agree that politics shouldn't derail life-saving research. When science funding becomes a political beach ball, we all lose. We must find a way to keep research focused on what matters: finding cures that help every American. 15/15
