Well over 5,200 firefighters and support personnel are currently assigned to large wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. About 3,000 are in Oregon and another 2,200 are in Washington. In addition to human resources, 335 fire engines and 40 helicopters are also working those fires.

Damage Survey Update: The National Weather Service in Grand Junction, CO, has rated the fire whirl/tornado that struck San Juan County, Utah on July 12, 2025, as an EF2, with estimated peak winds of 122 mph. This is the first fire whirl/tornado rated EF2 since Sept 5, 2020.

Given rainfall rates of 2-3" per hour in the most intense storms this afternoon, this is particularly concerning. Just 0.25-0.75" of rain in one hour will cause flash #flooding in parts of Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks and Chester Counties. Yikes!
