*Effort Post Time*: “Why should I be a neoliberal?” Sometimes, I’ll get variants of this question from folks to my left. Also, my opponent in the shill bracket hates neoliberals! But...here’s a thread on why YOU should be a neoliberal.

If you want to dunk on $5 dresses, you have to explain in detail why the human being who made it deserves being forced into the crushing poverty of subsistence agriculture.
If you want to defend your human right to a $5 dress, you have to explain in detail why the human being who hand-made it does not deserve safe working conditions and fair pay.
I think the best option here, in keeping with current discourse, is “throwing out the Everything Bagel.” In short, reducing the maximum subsidy rates for major credits while eliminating all of the ancillary conditions needed to meet them. 1/
NEW @TaxFoundation: Rolling back the Inflation Reduction Act is a major option to help pay for some of the expiring TCJA tax cuts. We estimate repealing green energy credits created or expanded in the IRA would raise $851 billion. We also consider options for partial repeal.
We are engaged! So excited to spend the rest of my life with you, Alex ❤️

Congrats to @AaronBergman18 on getting the extreme EA room makeover of his dreams, complete with an Our World In Data gallery wall, a shrine to Will MacAskill, far too many chicken decals, and an actual bednet!
I spoke too soon! Thanks to the incredible @ohwizenedtortle donating after the official close of the fundraiser, it's time to give @AaronBergman18's room the EA makeover of his dreams!
Colorado will be the next to embrace "smart stair" reform. This plan helps get the government out of micromanaging the construction of housing people can afford and allows for the building of more units at lower costs.. reason.com/2025/01/21/in-…
A 10% universal tariff won’t raise revenue equal to 10% * current goods imports. First, imports will shrink. Using an elasticity of -1 implies imports will shrink by 10% if the US imposes a 10% tariff. Narrower tariffs would result in a larger response. Second, no tax enjoys…
Thank you so much to everyone who donated! In the end we raised $32.8k, or about 1% of AWF's total donations for 2024. Based on the historical cost-effectiveness of AWF's grants, I expect the money will greatly benefit the lives of hundreds of thousands of farmed animals!
🚨🚨🚨Announcing this year's Giving What We Can "Terminally Online" EA Fundraiser! Me, @SpacedOutMatt, @AaronBergman18 + @absurdlymax are raising money for the EA Animal Welfare Fund (see link below) and we've got some fun incentives! Thank you to those who've donated so far!
We found similar results for US states when looking at a narrower set of policies. The concurrent phaseout of federal EITC, state EITC, SNAP, and state CTCs creates big penalties for moving from a minimum to a median wage job.
The marginal effective tax rate in Ontario is up to 70% for the middle class (including both income taxes and benefit claw backs)
Between Bernie attacking H1Bs, Biden blocking inward investment by Nippon, and Trump threatening tariffs, we've got 3 guys who came of age in a totally different economy failing to understand how economic connection with the rest of the world makes America stronger in 2025.
A quick look at America in the 1890s - no reason for nostalgia at all - and here's @Laura_k_Duffy on the many reasons tariffs are bad taxation: progressivepolicy.org/its-not-1789-a…

2024 was my best year for running since high school, as I: - met my goal of running 1200 miles - ran my first half marathon 2025 goal I am trying to publicly pre-commit to: running a marathon! (If you have training plans, I would love some advice!)

Anyway - this week’s donation goes to @TheHumaneLeague, an organisation working to end the abuse of animals raised for food. Their work has helped secure better lives for millions of chickens through corporate cage-free campaigns. thehumaneleague.org
