The truth about the UK benefits system: We spend billions topping up poverty wages for big business — not supporting the vulnerable. That’s not welfare. That’s corporate subsidy. Time to end it. #CorporateWelfare #DignityWage
This is mealy-mouthed and refuses to call it what it is: racism. It doesn’t even have the decency to name me, let alone offer a direct apology. Supine journalism from The Observer, but sadly that’s what we’ve come to expect from the mainstream media.
Editor's note on the removal of the SAF cartoon from our 20 July edition: We are genuinely sorry for causing offence, and we are taking the cartoon down. bit.ly/46g5b7P
"The Cunliffe Report is a joke. It protects water profiteers, screws over billpayers, and will do little to reduce pollution in our rivers and coastlines. The only solution is for water to be taken into public ownership" My new column for @theipaper inews.co.uk/opinion/the-cu…
Whilst the Daily Express front pages the human catastrophe in Gaza, our Prime Minister writes in the Sun about how he will stop refugees working for Deliveroo...
Keir Starmer has described the situation in Gaza as "intolerable on many levels", just not the one where Britain stops arming Israel
I’ve got an idea - let’s stop poaching workers from other counties to satisfy our demand, their countries need social care workers too and let’s stop treating care workers as crap, pay them a decent wage for the hard work they do and raise the standing of social care as a job
Perth has the highest proportion of elderly people of anywhere in Scotland As new UK immigration rules come in, there is real concern about how Perth's older residents will be cared for. Really great piece from @James_L_Walker thenational.scot/news/25336494.…
Since everyone now knows that we can renationalise water for ***£NIL*** (hopefully), we can start focussing on why a Labour govt is refusing to do this and pretending it would cost a fortune. Could it be that they represent the interests of billionaire asset owners, not us?
Why is Labour saying renationalising water would cost £100 billion When Thames Water is effectively bust, we could pick it up for a nominal £1 (same price paid for Jaguar and Land Rover) And then as a publicly owned firm our bills would go to investing in our water…
Keir Starmer and David Lammy both belong in The Hague.
Good to see @RichardBurgon and @garyseconomics making the case for wealth taxes. Austerity is a political choice. Balancing the books on the most vulnerable is cruel and unnecessary. We need wealth taxes. Now.
It was great to bump into @garyseconomics as I was delivering my petition for a Wealth Tax to 10 Downing Street. Gary has done an absolutely amazing job making the case for a wealth tax and real action against wealth inequality. This is a campaign we are going to win!
Another way to ensure that only legal workers worked for Deliveroo etc would be to ban Zero Hours Contracts and ensure delivery workers are given full employment rights. But that would mean Labour siding with workers not with billionaires so it won't happen.
We're taking action to stop migrants working illegally as food delivery drivers.
BrewDog are Scab bastards
🚨| BREAKING: BrewDog is closing 10 bars across the UK, with staff reportedly given "three days' notice". Unite Hospitality: "In what universe is 3 DAYS a morally (or legally) acceptable notice period for a proper redundancy consultation for the workers impacted?!"
⏳ Final week to sign up to the Green Party. 🗳️ Vote for Bold Leadership on August 1st.
The poorest households in Slovenia & Malta are better off than the poorest in the UK. UK has some of the least generous welfare across the OECD Yet govts push failed policies, real wage/benefit cuts, unchecked profiteering, oppose higher tax on the rich. niesr.ac.uk/wp-content/upl…
So little, so late, President @vonderleyen : After you have given Israel 21 months a free pass in Gaza, it will take more than words to prevent Israel from completing its genocidal mission and overt ethnic cleansing campaign. And even more, to repair what's left of the EU…
Civilians cannot be targets. Never. The images from Gaza are unbearable. The EU reiterates its call for the free, safe and swift flow of humanitarian aid. And for the full respect of international and humanitarian law. Civilians in Gaza have suffered too much, for too long.…
Every council should be building new or buying back council homes and should all be exempt from right to buy. It makes sense and will save the government money plus help councils become more sustainable in the future with an regular income from housing stock.
Building more council homes also helps
It is worthwhile campaigning for an honest independent MP.
To not put nationalisation as an option in the Cunliffe Review will be seen as ideological.
“I'm not going to focus on ideology." It would cost £100bn to nationalise water companies and the government would have to take that money from the NHS and education, Environment Secretary Steve Reed tells @krishgm
The retirement age should be lower. As a rule we all work too many hours for too many years.
This is new! @SteveReedMP is now claiming that it was his own officials in @DefraGovUK that came up with the £100bn cost of water re-nationalisation figure not the Privatised Water Industry. Time for an FOI Request I reckon

I agree - public schools like Eton, Gordonstoun, Radley and Winchester should be abolished.
Not all cultures are equal, in fact some are absolutely medieval and have no place in Britain.
