Today has filled me both with indignation and inspiration simultaneously. Indignation, because I witnessed the worst of 14 years of Conservative failure and the real consequences of cancelling the building of schools for the future. But inspiration, because I met the most…

At which point do we admit that Ofsted is not fit for purpose and needs scrapping and replacing. If it was a school they had just inspected, there would be several implementations needed. Who watches the watchmen?
• 45% of Black women raised concerns during labour—but 49% felt ignored. • 23% weren’t given requested pain relief, and 40% of those got no explanation. • 54% faced general issues with healthcare staff. • 28% reported discrimination, and only 60% rated their antenatal care…
This is a very real, and serious injustice. It comes at the same time as another report highlights the general deterioration in maternity-related healthcare. As usual, the sweeping reforms needed to tackle discrimination will also benefit all of society. theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
Ofsted inspections are so high stakes for schools. Yet the inspectorate is in mess. How can the profession or parents deem their findings reliable?
Ofsted has missed nearly all internal inspection targets this year, its staff are less positive about working there and one in 10 left, the watchdog’s annual report and accounts reveal schoolsweek.co.uk/missed-inspect…
Congratulations @MattWrack Forward we move. @NEUnion 🤝 @NASUWT
I’m proud to announce that I have been elected the next general secretary of the @NASUWT. We need to win for teachers now, more than ever. Let’s move forward a united, powerful union.
The UK must immediately recognise Palestinian statehood. There can be no two state solution if there is no viable state left to call Palestine.
Wealth Tax Now
It was great to bump into @garyseconomics as I was delivering my petition for a Wealth Tax to 10 Downing Street. Gary has done an absolutely amazing job making the case for a wealth tax and real action against wealth inequality. This is a campaign we are going to win!

A multi-year pay deal could offer stability—but only if it’s done right: 1. Restores real-terms pay after years of erosion 2. Includes safeguards if inflation shifts 3. Is fully funded—no more cuts to schools Recruitment & retention depend on it. schoolsweek.co.uk/ministers-ask-…
It is simply not fit for purpose. Time for a brave govt to accept that the system is broken and needs to be thrown out and start again

The NEU welcomes the @NorthEast_CA's £28.6m Child Poverty Action Plan. Too many children are held back by poverty. Mayor Kim McGuinness’ commitment marks an important first step toward ensuring every child in the North East can thrive and have access to the opportunities they…
At today’s meeting of the North East Combined Authority Cabinet North East Mayor Kim McGuinness will set out her £28.6m action plan to tackle child poverty.
The North East saw the sharpest rise in child poverty. This is an excellent plan from the North East Mayor.
Today marks a huge moment for families as we launch the North East Child Poverty Action Plan. Our region has shamefully high levels of child poverty - we have to act! So with £28.6m of investment, we’ll do just that. We’ll expand baby box deliveries, give cash grants to…
In 3 years 472 pupils left "before the scheduled end of their time at the school." 28% had SEND; 39% had no alternative school to go to. All this is bad enough but I really hope it's not true staff were expected to issue 25 detentions each, every week. share.google/WmYCVRQtLO0ukJ…
According NHS 1 in 5 children now struggle with mental disorders - but why? 🔹 Screen time up 50% since 2020 🔹Depression higher in those young people who use social media more. 🔹 School stress rising with high-stakes testing. We’ve flooded kids with tech, social media and…

🚨Inclusive education helps all kids thrive—SEND & non-SEND. But we need serious changes to make it work: 1️⃣ Fund it properly (double funding now!) 2️⃣ Smaller classes = better support 3️⃣ Ditch ‘one-size-fits-all’ assessments 4️⃣ No profit off SEND kids 5️⃣ Value all progress, not…
📉 The DfE predicts 400,000 fewer pupils in schools by 2030. This MUST NOT mean school closures or funding cuts. Instead, let’s use this chance to: ✅ Cut class sizes ✅ Ease teacher workloads ✅ Boost support for SEND pupils ✅ Improve education for every child Class sizes of…
Solidairty to @NEUnion members at UCL Academy who were on strike this week over poor conditions, unacceptable management and concerns over health and safety. Basic policies are not in place to help the school function, leading to a chaotic environment that is unsafe for pupils…
