Even one-on-one therapy with a licensed professional takes months or years to make a meaningful change. So how exactly are teachers or school counselors, who often have zero clinical training and manage caseloads of 300 students, supposed to fix an entire generation’s mental…
Some kids need emotional support. But I dont need my 25 year old 1st year teacher leading quasi-group therapy. Sometimes crisis happens, I get that, but it almost seems like people would rather focus on that than... adverbs, fractions, or the periodic table.

Hot off the press! @UFLiteracy now has an Intervention Placement Test to help you figure out where to begin interventions for specific students. Scoring patterns tell you which UFLI lesson you should start with. This is going to be really helpful! ufli.education.ufl.edu/wp-content/upl…
Administrators have got to ensure the classes are well run and children are learning. Thats their job. This is when parent advocates really help. They're the ones who can make noise and get things handled by the higher-ups.
If 90% of the behavior issues come from 10% of the classes. Instead of making all teachers/kids spend precious time on an SEL program, how about making sure those teachers have the support they need so every classroom is well-run. Everybody knows "room 15" is wild. Address it
🏆 Congratulations to @EdmontonOilers forward Leon Draisaitl on taking home the ESPY for Best NHL Player! #ESPYS
Very much this in education. People who advocate -no exclusions -open plan classrooms -default discovery learning -default project based learning -therapeutic behaviour management etc …will never have to suffer the consequences of those strategies. Only other people, and…
To quote Thomas Sowell: "It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong."
"Chromebooks are the new Baby Einstein – an untested educational panacea with laughably dubious evidence of any positive outcomes." Putting computers on students desks was a terrible mistake. By John Allen Wooden johnallenwooden.substack.com/p/ok-google-ma…

This is a vastly under-discussed topic of equally vast importance. Most children are the victims of the misbehaviour of a focussed few. The damage to their opportunities, life outcomes, education, physical and mental health are incalculable. But usually because no one chooses…
At what point will the discussion shift to the impact excluded pupils have had on the education & welfare of the other pupils & staff, including staff recruitment & retention & disproportionate use of school resource. Not enough is said about this.

If you are in a non-clinical role, it's important not to crossover without the training and expertise. If you want to be a psychologist, be one. But I'm concerned about requiring educators (for example) to fill that role without the training and expertise. Not fair to anyone.
Yes, I jumped on the AI trend for pet portraits. It captured his attitude purr-fectly. @jk_rowling Does he still capture a bit of your version of Strike? These are his 1 year old birthday pictures 🐈⬛ #cormoranstrike #TRG

Why is everyone still trying to plan for the fight rather than plan for proper socialization of the kids?! This blog post has been updated. Still more to do, always more to do, but perhaps will help clarify why the blue box is not the answer. Go to the white and grey box! Start…
But it works. The trust is that things will not be allowed to fester. It's an expectation, standard, and commitment. It's honesty. For the kids not being held hostage and those freed from the pressure to continue the fight... it is liberating. The adults are in charge.
DfE data today shows school suspensions have risen to almost a million, what is your solution to this problem? Cue a few days of: more support, more money, earlier intervention, more innovative curriculums, better teaching, less punitive behaviour policies, more nurture, being…
