Fascinated by how specificity is achieved at chromatin! PhD with @juliusbrennecke @IMBA_Vienna #smallRNAs 🪰🦏🔬 Postdoc @SchubelerLab @FMIscience #TFs 🐁🧫🧬
How does the HP1 variant Rhino achieve its specific localization that is so important for the #piRNA pathway?🪰 The final version of our answer is out @eLife showing that the ZnF protein Kipferl balances the competition of different selfish elements for 🦏 doi.org/10.7554/eLife.…
Cells turn genes on and off with the help of transcription factors, but binding to DNA is complex. @marco_heffler, @RalphSGrand and others in the @SchubelerLab found that these factors act more variably than expected, sometimes displacing nucleosomes only in certain regions 🧬
To pioneer or not to pioneer...! Or is it a bit more complicated after all? Check out the latest from the @SchubelerLab, a huge effort by @marco_heffler and @RalphSGrand 🎉 (featuring the first small snippets of my PD work 😊)
Wouldn’t it be great to test how individual transcription factors engage with their motif in the nucleus? We tried exactly that in a study lead by Ralph (@RalphSGrand) and Marco (@marco_heffler) now out in Molecular Cell authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S10…. 1/7
It is challenging to study the ability of transcription factors to engage their motifs in the cell. We tried to address this in our new study together with Marco (@marco_heffler), @SchubelerLab, and @FMIscience: cell.com/molecular-cell…

Excited to share our latest preprint. Lead by Sevi (@biosevi) we asked how transcription factors (TFs) with short and abundant motifs drive specific cell fates. Our test cases: Two bHLH factors that bind to seemingly similar E-boxes. 1/7 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Congratulations to Julius Brennecke for securing one of this year’s @ERC_Research Advanced Grants! Julius will study the arms race between transposons and host genomes. #ERCAdG More here: oeaw.ac.at/imba/research-…
I’m beyond excited to present my postdoc work with @plaschka_lab and @JuliusBrennecke at @IMPvienna @IMBA_Vienna . We uncovered a mechanistic framework for a general and conserved mRNA nuclear export pathway. A thread: 1/x

Over 4 years in the making, I am excited to share our pre-print on the “In-cell structure and snapshots of copia retrotransposons in intact tissue by cryo-electron tomography”. We used cryo-ET to resolve the copia capsid structure to subnanometer resolution inside cells. A 🧵
This month we had the last happy hour in our current building. The event marked the end of an era, complete with piñata smashing, poster graffiti and intense Jenga battles🎊Exciting times ahead as we gear up to move to a new home soon! Keep watching this space for more🏢✨
@PetersLabFMI: Excited to share our latest preprint lead by Greg Fanourgakis (@Grigo_Fanou). Key findings are that DNA methylation modulates nucleosome retention in sperm and H3K4 methylation deposition in early mouse embryos. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Yay! Super happy to see my paper out in @emboreports. Thanks to all the people involved in the work, the reviewers and the editor. For a summary, check out the interview below 👇 or this threat 🧵: x.com/llorenzoorts/s…
