While it's devastating that the UC Bill has passed through the lords, its important to highlight just how much the incredible work of activists made the government strip it back. This is the power of disabled people when we come together. They will never take that away from us.
Sorry to say that's it. The universal credit bill has been passed. Not a great advert for the #Lords this evening, despite a small number of good speeches by those opposed. Full report by DNS on Thursday. Not feeling thrilled about democracy this evening. #UniversalCreditBill
Before you start with "how", you might need to convince people of "why"? Start with telling us which listed human right you believe we shouldn't have and which you don't want.
The ECHR does not override British sovereignty; UK courts must “take into account” Strasbourg judgments but are not bound to follow them blindly. Most rights cases are resolved in UK courts without going to the European Court of Human Rights.
Withdrawal could lead to fewer protections for individuals against state abuses, with vulnerable groups most at risk. It might also jeopardise international cooperation on justice, security, and trade, as adherence to human rights norms is often a condition of these agreements!

Thank u for saying so out loud👍 Too often the #AMHP & the MHAA is used as a risk management & bed management tool. I too often find myself knocking on the doors of peeps/families who have no care co-ordinator & whom r virtually unknown to CMHT staff… in crisis & the only >

This is about my wonderful and beautiful nephew Myles who was let down by Drs @CHFTNHS and Dalton Surgery in Huddersfield .They didn't see him as an equal human being. This happens far too often in the NHS . It has to change itv.com/news/2025-07-1… itv.com/news/2025-07-1…
