In the great burst of commentary about SEND changes over the last few days (and one explicitly supportive opinion piece, in the Times), I haven't seen a coherent argument for taking EHCPs out of mainstream schools, let alone a convincing one. If that changes, let us know
It's worth noting that many academy trusts are lobbying to define 'inclusive' education as: 'has SEND children at the school', not 'provides equal access to education for SEND'. Stripping EHCPs whilst removing SEND kids from mainstream classrooms is a return to 1960s segregation.
Fundamental rights apparently to be replaced by "SEND units".

Anyone going to @DeerShed at the weekend? I'll be in conversation with the great @davesimps0n on Sunday at 1.10pm in the Buckendz stage, talking about my new book Maybe I'm Amazed, music, neurodivergence & more
Brilliant work John & thank you for highlighting this important issue. Please share my C4 News story . channel4.com/news/is-govern…
Latest from me: on why learning disability is the frontier of human liberation, & how so much of its history is still ignored and overlooked. This is all about @RoseUnwin's landmark new book Beautiful Lives theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

"Removing Education, Health and Care Plans will cause chaos... The idea that children with SEND can be adequately catered for by placing them all together in a “unit” in a mainstream school with no legal protection is preposterous." apple.news/AYvLUfVJ4RkWML…
If the govt stubbornly presses on with its apparent quest to remove educational rights from SEND kids in mainstream schools, this is what the fight will look like: cold bureaucracy and Treasurythink v raw humanity (from today's @DailyMirror, thanks to @CarrieGrant1)

While the worst politicians are yelling about costly transport for children with Special Needs, note: this is a result of austerity & messed-up education policy - which were cheered on by these ppl - meaning there aren't appropriate schools & colleges near where families live.
There's a lovely and empathetic review of my new book Maybe I'm Amazed in this week's TLS by James Cook: "an extraordinarily powerful memoir... a heartfelt demand for autism awareness, acceptance and inclusivity."

My brother @jamesbpcook is in this week’s @TheTLS with a review of Maybe, I’m Amazed, @johnharris1969’s fine memoir of his autistic son’s deep connection with music.
What I wrote on Sunday, and in today's FT, here it is. If Labour takes SEND families' rights away, this may well be what we have to face, with no defences

All you people knocking @edsheeran's paintings: the money raised goes to the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which is doing amazing work on music in state schools open.substack.com/pub/maybeimama…
From Politico. With the possibility/likelihood of a Reform UK government, if Labour takes Special Needs rights away from families, they will be left at the complete mercy of these people

Current headlines from Mirror, Sun & Guardian, and Politico. Government insists it's "pressing ahead". The same movie we saw only last week

The problem isn't with EHCPs, it's with the lack of accountability when it comes to education law. Stop pretending disabled children are the problem! @UKLabour independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n… #send #saveourchildrensrights
