Somehow they never mention this in the wiffle waffle about breastfeeding, bonding and "skin to skin" (aka contrived, prescribed naked cuddling in a not so safe position)
What percentage of the time are the mothers of securely attached babies attuned to them Guess - I will answer later with the real answer and actual research
The Bent Spoon Award is presented annually in Australia to "the perpetrator of the most preposterous piece of paranormal or pseudoscientific piffle." Newest winner: The Cancer Council WA for promoting Reiki to cancer patients. skeptics.com.au/cancer-council…

Thank you @Channel4News for having me back. Talking about health inequalities and baby loss makes people uncomfortable but that silence is why it keeps happening. We need a full, judge-led statutory inquiry. Nothing less will do. For Grace. For every family failed 🤍

This is NOT “holistic mindful care” it’s gaslighting gone mad. A propofol TCI sedation or GA is care safe effective quick clean recovery. I am all for being nice & supportive but these women do not need to “focus on their breathing” they need safe anaesthesia.
Is this for real ? Women who have just miscarried are given a VR headset to watch instead of anaesthesia while any remains of the pregnancy are removed. This is not progress. cwplus.org.uk/latest/virtual…

A health care profession or service that tolerates and elevates pseudoscience will be at odds with the safety of its patients

"Maybe it's your perception of the pain". I said to a (male) anaesthetist that I was concerned about post op analgesia at the pre-op assessment before my 2nd planned CS he told me.that "if you expect to feel pain, you will" and then suggested I watch YOUTUBE videos.
My review of @theodoraclarke's book on birth trauma is now out at @spectator Almost every woman I know has had a traumatic birth experience. It's time to talk about it. spectator.co.uk/article/the-sh…
"There's no such thing as normal birth ideology, we're just understaffed!!" It's classic DARVO, but I also think it's a sort of ego defence. They don't want to admit that their own cherished and entrenched beliefs are harmful, so they blame external factors.
Even if patients with severe mental illnesses were to walk into these services with no referral, no appointment to get "support"... What would that support be? Would it meet the patient's needs given the staff wouldn't be expected to know the patient's history, risk assessment…
The first 24/7 Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre has opened in East London. People with serious mental illness like schizophrenia or bipolar can walk in anytime for support. No referral needed. No appointments. Just support, close to home. ➡️ england.nhs.uk/2025/07/first-…
Are bad apples the problem in NHS maternity care? Nope - and the psychology of evil can give us a vital perspective here. Read on... At first glance it looks like there are lots of bad apples doesn't it: 🍎Midwives offering smelly oils while women show clear signs of…
The bad apples give the orchard a bad name, says @wesstreeting about leadership in the NHS #InsightToImpactMatNeo
Absolutely no surprise to see that NHS maternity services are using the @HSJnews 'Patient Safety Awards' as a PR opportunity. Really handy to have a 'good news' story when you're under fire for killing and injuring mums and babies. I am disgusted. awards.patientsafetycongress.co.uk/shortlist-2025
The #LengReview recommends that #PhysicianAssociates should work within a tightly-defined scope of practice in GP - not seeing undifferentiated patients, instead providing health checks & lifestyle support. But IMO the maths doesn't work - why pay Band 7 salary for a Band 3 role?
Awards can fuel bad care. This was highlighted in the inquiry at East Kent hospitals. Here is another example at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, one of the 10 trusts currently investigated by the government. 👉 x.com/catherineroyuk…
It really puts due diligence into question though doesn't it? How accurate are these awards? It's ethically wrong that a dept in crisis would get a good-work sticker they can flaunt when the deeper issues aren't scrutinised. Mums will choose birth at these trusts based on this.
