Mum to Norah and Hope 💛🌈 Calling for statutory PI into maternity services in England with @safe_maternity and victim restoration with @maternityR2R
The adrenaline is still pumping this morning and I am still crying. It was so emotional. And felt really positive. I genuinely believe Wes has the best intentions and hope for the action to back it up.
Yesterday I & a group of 14 parents from @safe_maternity met with @wesstreeting. We put our hearts & souls into it, incl hours of meetings & prep over 4 days. I believe we were heard and that Wes understood what is happening in the maternity system - the first SoS to do so.
Not everyone shares their story. Some hold it deep, quiet, unseen. That doesn’t make their pain smaller. To every parent who carries grief in silence: we see you. Your baby mattered too. #BabyLoss #StillbirthAwareness #Grief #LossAndLove #YourBabyMatters
theguardian.com/society/2025/j… This is nothing less than a scandal and national disgrace. I struggle to comprehend why this hasn't been headline news on every single national news bulletin and featured on the front page of every newspaper. Unfathomable UK Maternity litigation costs.
Thank you @GMB for covering our groundbreaking report in this mornings show
Black women face disproportionately higher risks during pregnancy and childbirth according to a report out today. More than half said they faced challenges with healthcare professionals, and more than a quarter reported experiencing discrimination. Gargy Patel report.
Well done @Laurenncaul excellent and articulate as always 👏 the only way forward is a PI
Thank you @Channel4News for having me back. Talking about health inequalities and baby loss makes people uncomfortable but that silence is why it keeps happening. We need a full, judge-led statutory inquiry. Nothing less will do. For Grace. For every family failed 🤍
We need to reduce the risk of harm in the first place. The high cost of negligence is associated with prolonged litigation “do not admit liability Vs doing what is right for families” and let’s not forget the victims currently being erased by the system. theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
Behind every £1 of this is a mini story. The need to buy incontinence nappies. Feeding supplies for tube feeding. Syringes for giving 20 doses of medicine a day. Suction catheters to stop choking. £27bn worth of mini stories of suffering & indignity theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
Powerful acknowledgment of the trauma endured by victims of NHS maternity failures & recognition of systemic issues, particularly the tendency of some trusts to prioritise “do not admit liability” over doing what is right for families by @wesstreeting
Those interested in culture and leadership in our heathcare system should consider the scandal of @nmcnews & it’s former CEO Jackie Smith who resigned in absolute disgrace in 2018 following the publication of a damning report from @prof_standards (incompetence of the NMC was…
Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust has one of the worst records for perinatal death in the country. Across 7 years of MBRRACE data: 🔴 5 red years 🟠 2 orange 🟢 0 green No other trust in England looks like this. #MaternitySafety #NHS #PatientSafety @HSJnews
Awards can fuel bad care. This was highlighted in the inquiry at East Kent hospitals. Here is another example at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, one of the 10 trusts currently investigated by the government. 👉 x.com/catherineroyuk…
It really puts due diligence into question though doesn't it? How accurate are these awards? It's ethically wrong that a dept in crisis would get a good-work sticker they can flaunt when the deeper issues aren't scrutinised. Mums will choose birth at these trusts based on this.
A thought, @HSJnews when maternity services as a whole are in crisis and it requires government intervention, is it an appropriate time to give out ANY awards? Surely investigation should uncover reality before PR gifts like this are given out. What's your due diligence on these?
Morally, HOW can anyone be comfortable with these 2 things being 16hrs apart? The families have not sat quietly, it's in the public domain. The family report was out on Monday. I just...can't understand how this is possible from a safety publication @HSJnews
Personally, my mum is panicking that her daughter in law is planning to give birth @ the hospital where mine died & gaslit for 6yrs because 'her sister had one & it was fine' She wants 2 know how 2 make her understand the risks. Now they are shortlisted for patient safety award.

Staggering comment in @SwanseabayNHS board meeting yesterday around Quality and Safety Committee receiving Maternity reports they didn’t understand from ‘shop floor’. From 1:25:40 youtu.be/q0jG_OoIynA?fe… Did they tell anyone they didn’t understand or just nod along? Madness.
I very seriously question the ethics of @HSJnews in facilitating this kind of reputation management. And the same of anyone else who is part of these awards. It's dodgy AF.
Absolutely no surprise to see that NHS maternity services are using the @HSJnews 'Patient Safety Awards' as a PR opportunity. Really handy to have a 'good news' story when you're under fire for killing and injuring mums and babies. I am disgusted. awards.patientsafetycongress.co.uk/shortlist-2025
RHCH and Swansea Bay up for @HSJ_Awards - it’s offensive, I’m angry….. you have no idea how upsetting this is to see. gaslighting fucks.
