A superb read, delivered with sensitivity, insight and respect, about living & dying. Explores the immense importance and value of talking openly, with professionalism, support & kindness, about death & dying instead of avoidance/euphemisms. Excellent on audio. @drkathrynmannix

The other day I spoke with a guy my age. His father, grandfather, and uncle all ended their lives through Canada's medical assistance in dying program. He imagines he will do the same one day. In most places, people are fighting to live. Why are so many in Canada asking to die?
Just published a short piece arguing that it's not that important if it's the role of the doctor to administer lethal drugs. Link below.
Men ages 75 and older are at the highest risk of suicide, a fact that is reflected in state assisted suicide data. Unfortunately this risk is only rising. statnews.com/2025/07/17/sui…

Proud of having worked for the only party in Canada to commit to repealing euthanasia for mental illness.
I almost died by suicide fifteen years ago while battling depression. If the expansion of MAID coming into force in 2027 were in place then, I'd likely be dead right now. Today, I'm launching the #IGotBetter campaign to keep hope alive for people living with mental illness.
Sir Kenneth Calman was an outstanding Chief Medical Officer for Scotland and then England. He was a great leader and reformer in public health and academia as well as undertaking wider public service. He was also a lovely man, courteous to all. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Very sad to hear this news. Ken was a champion for palliative medicine, a founding member of @APMPostTweets, & was instrumental in persuading @RCPhysicians to accept pall med as a medical specialty. He encouraged me to 'knit my own' training scheme. I'll always be grateful.

This is quite funny! The agony for Adrian on how to answer honestly.
'You can't even bring yourself to say that you like Zack Polanski?' @IainDale has to coax @AdrianRamsay into admitting he likes his Green Party colleague and leadership opponent.
