Urban planners removing #BlueBadge parking must understand a private vehicle for many is not a ‘2 ton wheelchair’ it is feeding station, toileting facility, medical facility, place of safety, means of emergency escape etc. In short, a mobile life support system that many NEED.

York Press reports “I have had hundreds & thousands of messages coming in. I am blown away by people’s kindness” says suspended MP Rachael Maskell. Let that be a warning to those chasing her seat hoping for her deselection. She’d win easily as an independent. #LabourBetrayal

Interestingly, in the press release they refer to the planting as “rain gardens” which does rather suggest an awareness of the realities of the weather in a northern city. But seemingly no interest in bus passengers getting wet whilst waiting. ☔️
Why #YorkCentral are we building brand new public realm that has bus stops without shelters ⁉️ The bus stop is the welcome mat to encourage greater bus use we keep hearing, & the hectares of empty space will in time be 2000 car free homes. Makes no sense.

They simultaneously tell disabled people we cannot have accessibility because it’s not the best use of taxpayers money (we are also taxpayers!) yet love to blame accessibility/ disabled ppl when they overspend. WE ARE PEOPLE TOO, JUST FACTOR ACCESSIBILITY IN FROM THE GET GO!
Not cool at all. Meanwhile, the new Director of City Development tells Corporate Scrutiny that £2-3 million of the overspend is due to ‘accessibility improvements’ 🤣We challenged that. They spent circa £600 on an accessible map for community consultation 🤷♀️
The Bond Street Elizabeth line station project had a significant budget overspend by approximately £500m Where was the scrutiny … But let’s blame disabled people and equal access, when in fact #YorkStationGateway got inclusive design wrong from the start and was avoidable
Finally. The incorrectly laid tactile paving as part of the #YorkStationGateway has been removed. It led you to walk off the kerb into the road (not a crossing) instead of directing you across the cycle track. It only took 4 months since being reported 🥺

Friday 10am YO1 Radio #York MP Rachael Maskell shares her thoughts about losing the @UKLabour whip Fair to say she’s sad about what’s happened but determined to fight for the interests of disabled people and her constituents @yorklabourparty 📻 102.8 & 90 FM DAB & Smart Speaker
Speaking at Council tonight on disability pride month & the 30th anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act. A last minute rewrite to reflect the unconscionable suspension of the whip from, @RachaelMaskell for having principles & defending disabled people ✊

Thank you Rachael for you unwavering support for your disabled constituents. Your principled and leading stand for equality and justice has been a source of pride for York.
"As a Labour Party member for over 34 years, I could not be more committed to the Party, one that upholds the values of equality and justice." #York For my full statement see my website, link in comments👇
.@UKLabour is losing its moral compass and any ability to manage relationships with the backbenches. This looks mean and vengeful and is bound to fail. How sad it has come to this @CompassOffice theguardian.com/politics/live/…

#YorkCentral access audit continued. We have a seating standard & this doesn’t meet it. As a wheelchair user you really wouldn’t want to make a sideways transfer onto this bench. Not unless you want a backside full of wooden splinters that is… 😳🙄

To illustrate problems with AT this is just opened #YorkCentral The photo is taken on the direct line from alighting a bus. No level change between pavement & cycle track, so how does a blind person know to walk in a loop⁉️Pedestrian desire lines, anyone ? #CyclingLoopy
