3am & coffee as I prepare for the last challenge of my journey. Knockfin Heights awaits! I’m hoping my navigation is spot on to see me through all of this. It’s only a short distance before I find the path to The Glutt & from there tracks & roads to Dunnet. Then it’s all done!

Swanston Cottage remains unchanged since it was painted by Robert Hope in 1914. The cottage was leased by Robert Louis Stevenson’s parents, during the summer months, for the period of Stevenson's late teens to twenties (1867 until 1880). Such wonderful inspiration for a writer.

A first visit to small but mighty Berneray and even after years of visiting the Outer Hebrides, I really wasn't prepared for this island. It's absolutely gorgeous and that West Beach is stunning, with that wonderful blue green you get in Hebrides waters.
205 years ago today. The Union Chain Bridge over the River Tweed upstream from Berwick-upon-Tweed opened to traffic on 26 July 1820. At the time it was the world's longest iron suspension bridge. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/berwick/unionb…

Opened in October 1972, Craigellachie Bridge on the A941 bypassed Thomas Telford's grand arch bridge built in 1815. It was designed by W.A Fairhurst & Partners and built by Miller Construction. Beautiful part of the country and well worth a visit. #Scotland #Archives
Dunnet Head, mainland Scotland’s most northerly point. Taken this morning on @NLFerries.
Just published! ‘Friend or Foe?’ is a fast-paced new thriller set largely in south-west Scotland during World War Two. Whithorn in Galloway has a background role in the book as the hunt for a spy gathers pace. Available in paperback, Kindle, Kobo or Apple: arachnid.scot/book-fof/index…
Dunure Castle, Ayrshire (Scotland) overlap of my old watercolour reconstruction. A Kennedy family stronghold. Site used in the filming of #Outlander Keep was later harled likely to hide the rubble lean-to build on seaward side. #DunureCastle #ScottishCoastalCastles

A view over the harbour at Macduff, on the north Aberdeenshire coast. A harbour was built here in 1760, though at that time the village was called Doune. It became Macduff in 1783: the family name of the laird, Lord Fife, was Duff. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/macduff/macduf…
