Net Zero policy @InstituteGC. All views my own.
Electricity prices are high because almost all drivers are going the wrong way and the only answers so far from government has been to try to subsidise its way out of a doom loop Serious reform up and down the energy system is necessary
I think it's volatile gas prices and sticky fossil fuel inflation, a geopolitical premium, cheaper electricity sources being unable to undercut them anywhere in the country, massive system waste, plus rising policy levies In other words, nothing is going right

⚡️2 new briefings on nuclear ⚡️ from @UKDayOne 1) Speed up building SMRs by 2-3 years through Regulatory Justification 2) Automatically recognise French & Korean reactor designs to save £millions Author creds: @ToneLangengen @DuncanMcClement @jasonhausenloy @Tymtweet 🧵
Lovely to speak at #FabianNYC25 yesterday on climate change and tackling the breakdown of climate consensus, alongside the impressive @metecoban92 @ToneLangengen and @politiceIIe 🌱 Thanks to Joe and the team for having me!
Our second round of breakouts are kicking off. Hearing from @mcortonscott, @metecoban92, @ToneLangengen, and @politiceIIe about how we can deliver net zero, restore the environment and secure the green jobs of the future #FabianNYC25
The question is no longer whether nuclear fusion will happen but when. The ultimate sustainable energy solution, fusion can be a gamechanger for the world. The UK must go further, faster, to stake its claim. Read my @InstituteGC paper👇 institute.global/insights/clima…
@InstituteGC new paper Revitalising Nuclear is required reading for anyone interested in energy policy. It clearly & thoroughly makes the case for why additional nuclear plants are necessary for UK’s clean energy transition & why they're near impossible to build currently. 🧵
Another one of the big AI companies getting in on nuclear investment. Time for the UK to seize the opportunities👇 institute.global/insights/clima…
🌍🔋 Meta is launching an request for proposals to identify nuclear energy developers, aiming for 1-4 GW of new nuclear capacity in the U.S. by the early 2030s. This initiative supports our #AI innovation and #sustainability goals. sustainability.atmeta.com/blog/2024/12/0… #NuclearEnergy
Important paper setting out the role of new nuclear in both achieving energy abundance and tackling climate change. Our latest polling has found that 54% of people think nuclear power should play an important part in the UK’s energy mix.
Can nuclear power help meet global climate goals? Misleading narratives have cemented the belief that nuclear is inherently dangerous, overshadowing its role as a safe, reliable & low-carbon energy source. Our latest paper reveals the world is now paying a price for inaction:…
Proud to be a guest author along with my @ThirdWayEnergy colleagues on the @InstituteGC ’s new paper urging the UK and allies, including the US, to act now lead in the new civilian nuclear energy age. institute.global/insights/clima…
The world would look very different if nuclear continued to grow the past three decades. Emissions would be 6% per cent lower, the same as taking 460m cars from the road or removing the combined total emissions of Canada, S Korea, Australia and Mexico. institute.global/insights/clima…
