A must read article. We've relied on nuclear power for 10-25% of UK electricity for 60+ years. Zero carbon electricity, the goal we are pushing so hard to achieve by 2030. But 7 of the 8 power plants running in 2020 are due to close by 2030.
New: Britain once led the world in nuclear power. In 1965, we had more reactors than the rest of the world combined! But, Britain is set to switch off all but one of our nuclear power stations in four years time. Here's why we must avoid that happening. 🧵
Pleased to see plans for Oxford-Cambridge rail in the #AutumnBudget Statement. But how long must we take on consultations?? Let's get building already! @BritainRemade @UKDayOne

Remarkable news on Microsoft's deal to resurrect an old nuclear plant and extend its life to generate stable, clean power for datacentres. If regulations allow, I think we will be seeing more privately owned nuclear plants built to supply datacentres, potentially in the UK.

Great suggestions on how to actually get Small Modular Nuclear Reactors built - they have the potential to play a significant part in the world's net-zero future, but that potential is currently tied up in red tape. These are the kind of specific fixes we need to make, and fast.
Yet, even with this investment, there’s a chance it won’t go as far as we’d like without tackling other challenges that impede the rollout of SMRs. In my paper, I put forward a handful of suggestions for how to fix these…
