I wrote about Steve Reed's 'water revolution' and why, to some campaigners, not even considering nationalisation means any attempt at reform will fall flat. @NewStatesman

An important intervention by Jonathan Sumption in this week's @NewStatesman.
“I have no ideological position on this conflict. I approach it simply as a lawyer and a historian. But I sometimes wonder what Israel’s defenders would regard as unacceptable, if the current level of Israeli violence in Gaza is not enough. This is not self-defence. It is not…
TL;DR: on average, most of us are getting poorer again.
A slightly longer take on UK GDP... (TL;DR - the UK economy needs stronger growth, not more tax rises) The second successive monthly fall in UK GDP in May confirms that the strong growth of 0.7% reported in the first quarter was just a flash in the pan. Growth in the second…
An excellent column from our US correspondent @freddiejh8. Eye-watering.

An important intervention in the @NewStatesman here👇

I’ve been talking to @robertjenrick / Rob Generic / Bobby J for the past fortnight. Farage thinks Jenrick will end up to the right of him. Cameroons are quietly impressed by him. I think his metamorphosis is a harbinger of the radical right to come. newstatesman.com/cover-story/20…
Honoured to write this for @TomMcTague's + @Will___lloyd's new @NewStatesman.
Great piece by Harry. One point though - the Cameroons did take a hard line on immigration. Cameron's tens of 10,000s target went further than Michael Howard. Damian Green -a wet rather than Cameron - was Immigration Minister. Cameron himself raised ECHR and he also mentioned..
One of the most fascinating things about the Jenrick profile is the number of Cameron-Johnson moderates who line up to agree with Jenrick about immigration. Here’s Johnson’s longest serving adviser Ed Lister on the “Boriswave”
