US House Republicans are trying to force a $1 billion spending cut on DC--for no other reason other than b/c they can under Home Rule. This reckless policy choice will cause more homelessness & poverty, harm public safety goals, & throw the FY 2025 budget severely out of balance.

Council leaders can spin it all they want, but we all know the value of a bill-specific hearing on RFK. Twist the truth all you want, but the bottom line is you're rushing the RFK deal 48 hrs after the RFK hearings end. This undermines public confidence that you value our voices.
Lawmakers recognize it's not the best look to announce an RFK agreement days before the public hearings, so here's how some responded today. I found this from Mendo notable: "In terms of the financial structure, I'm not sure we're gonna get a lot of testimony that's on point."

There is no chance under this timeline that council members would actually be listening in any real way to the 460+ people testifying if the markup, vote would be 1-2 days later. Hearings aren’t your window dressing—actually listen @ChmnMendelson @CMBrookePinto @CMFrumin…
News: Council Chair Phil Mendelson is planning a first vote on the RFK stadium deal as soon as NEXT Friday, per a source. (Fixed from last tweet!) Lawmakers will need to vote a 2nd time: it's unclear when. Some CMs have bristled at this coming right after next week's hearing...
We did this to him. This government. This country. We condemned him to this torture because he dared to follow our own laws and seek refuge here. Utterly sick.
As Ward 4 Councilmember, it’s important the votes I make are based on objective data, steeped in community values, and responsive to the needs of our community. The recent reports on the RFK campus redevelopment show real questions remain — questions we can't afford to overlook.
I hope my Councilmember @CMWendellFelder / @WendellforWard7 is fighting for more improvements for us W7 residents. DC residents deserve more out of this deal!
9/12 I hear y'all want Jobs, right? The current deal only covers labor protections for stadium jobs, leaving out 10K+ other jobs. We need full labor agreements that prioritize D.C. workers, especially from Wards 7 & 8. #NotLikeThis

you truly hate to see it. a teacher making $50k a year should be taxed just like a server making $50k a year.
With the Ways and Means Committee meeting on the One Big Beautiful Bill in Vegas (the birthplace of "no tax on tips") I have some new charts 📉 showing the 2025 tax cut at different income levels with: - A $5,000 tips deduction - The max ($25,000) deduction Links in next tweet.
Analyzing the FY26 budget looking for benefits for working class Washingtonians:
Council Budget Office analysis on RFK Stadium deal is out & its even more expensive than first reported. Total DC Taxpayer Subsidy: $4.4 billion‼️ We need a better deal. That’s a huge price to pay with not enough coming back to DC taxpayers & residents. Still time to get right.
The analysis says that the reason mixed-used development without a stadium would eventually produce more tax revenue is simple: "The stadium proposal comes with a significant amount of land dedicated to large parking garages, which do not generate sizable revenues."
The Chairman believes that out of 500 public witnesses none will have any background or expertise on the financial structure of stadium deals? Te council is not the holder of all knowledge. That’s why we hold hearings. Members of public should be able to testify & persuade!

Last year, the Council passed Lisa's Law, my bill guaranteeing all youth in foster care have access to luggage when moving placements. In just 15 days, @DCCFSA has surpassed its goal of raising 1,100 bags for foster youth in DC! This is what dignity in action looks like.

This is one of those images you instantly know will appear in history books of the future. And people will wonder how we allowed this to happen.
🚨 Action Alert 🚨 Tell the DC Council you support increased funding to end chronic homelessness! Underinvestment in housing will cause undue harm to our neighbors who are already struggling. loom.ly/lYmZqa8
DC residents won't get to weigh in on priorities for the stadium deal 'til next week, yet reportedly @ChmnMendelson has already reached a deal. How is this democratic? Residents deserve to be heard before our $ is used for massive subsidies for a billionaire sports team owner.
RFK STADIUM UPDATE: The head of the D.C. Council reached an agreement with the Commanders on the stadium, opening the door for a vote, sources tell News4. nbc4dc.com/sWNi0Cy
Pushing to bring back the ‘Redskins’ name isn’t about pride. It’s about clinging to ignorance. Bit by bit, we witness efforts to undo the progress we once supported. We shouldn’t go backwards, stay silent to win a stadium deal, or endorse hate dressed up as heritage.
🧾 DC’s budget is being finalized, and it still includes $0 for housing chronically homeless single adults. In this year’s Point In Time Count, 1,430 single adults reported being chronically homeless. That number has gone up from last year. Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is…
