South Thames Resident Doctors
@SouthThamesRRDC
Working together to represent doctors and to improve patient care in South London and KSS.
A fantastic turnout at the @GSTTnhs picket today. Doctors came out in strength and made sure they were heard all the way in Westminster by @wesstreeting. No dr wants to strike. But we’ve been forced into this position by a Government that refuses to value and retain NHS staff.
Lovely contingent from Chichester who came down to Brighton @UHSussex for our picket today! @wesstreeting we are united These @BMAResidents are not worth 21% less than they would have been in 2008 ❌ #fullpayrestoration

And the award for cutest picketer goes to Scarlett at @UHSussex @BMAResidents #FullPayRestoration How can you say no to this @wesstreeting ?
Great to see such a fantastic turnout for our picket at @UHSussex . No doctor here is worth 21% less than they were in 2008 ❌ @wesstreeting it’s time to end this, make us a credible offer to restore our pay

We've written to NHS England with concerns about inadequate planning ahead of possible strike action later this week. Attempts to run non-urgent services with fewer doctors risk patient safety. It's imperative that Trusts postpone work to protect urgent and emergency care.
At today's RDC meeting, we’ve voted to go ahead with strike action. Last week when we met @wesstreeting we were open to finding solutions to restore pay and improve working conditions. Today, we still do not have a credible offer on the table @Melissa_S_Ryan @RossNieuwoudt
Calling all London doctors! The London picket will be at St Thomas’ Hospital on Friday 25th July, 8am–12pm. This is a key moment in our fight for full pay restoration. Every voice matters. Every presence counts. Let’s show @wesstreeting our strength and our resolve.
“I’m really hopeful that Mr Streeting will come to these talks with a plan to end this dispute.” @ERunswickBMA speaks to @bbcnickrobinson on @BBCr4today this morning, about the negotiations with @wesstreeting this week.
9 out of 10 doctors voted for IA if we need to. But we shouldn’t need to. 28.9% is misleading: - counts an uplift not yet received - much lost to inflation - the Tories gave almost half Reality: our pay is 21% down on 2008 levels. Let’s hope our talks are productive.
The Health Secretary Wes Streeting says he's 'pleased' the BMA have agreed to his offer of talks to try and avert strike action. 'If strikes go ahead everyone loses: Doctors lose, the NHS loses, patients lose, and the public loses,' said Streeting.
Tomorrow, we meet with @wesstreeting All we're asking for is a clear path to #PayRestoration Industrial action is our last resort. There's still time for the Government to do what's right and avert these strikes before it's too late. bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/…
“Our committee is on standby to consider any credible proposals you make.” Co-chairs @Melissa_S_Ryan and @RossNieuwoudt have written to @wesstreeting saying there is still time to present a credible offer and call off the strike.
As co-chair of the BMA Resident Doctors Committee @Melissa_S_Ryan says, it’s entirely reasonable for a fully qualified doctor to move from £17.56/hr to £22.67/hr. These are the doctors caring for 100s of sick patients overnight. It’s time for @wesstreeting to pay drs fairly.
Incoming FY1s - your induction/shadowing to become a Dr are important, and your union @TheBMA know this. The message is simple: attend your induction/shadowing! (And fill out this to get ballot ready to join strikes when needed in the future: forms.office.com/e/WazxKAr4kK)
Following yesterday’s strike ballot result, we met with @wesstreeting It’s clear: the Government is refusing to negotiate on pay. We are now preparing for a full 5 day walk-out, beginning on Friday 25 July. Our door will always be open to constructive talks. #PayRestoration
'I stand with my former colleagues' Author and comedian Adam Kay, who qualified as a doctor, told #BBCBreakfast he supports resident doctors who have voted in favour of strike action, in the latest chapter in a long-running pay dispute bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Another packed @BMAResidents Pizza & Pay event at @GSTTnhs today! Every single resident doctor I spoke to had already voted YES in the strike ballot. This campaign isn’t about asking for more - it’s about fairness. We’re doing the same job as doctors did in 2008, but being…

It is a huge privilege to be elected Chair of Council @TheBMA. @DrPhilBanfield has set a very high standard to match. We all owe him, @pickersgill1, @DrLatifaPatel and @ERunswickBMA a huge debt of gratitude for pushing forward so many things our members want to achieve together!
