Would be nice to see more long serving classroom teachers on the education honours lists, your 30-40 year teachers and middle leaders operating in tough circumstances. Very rare to see them get recognised on there.
this super special edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray shows all the censorship that Oscar Wilde went through before it was allowed to be published in 1891
Why is England the only place in Europe where teachers are expected to hand in their planning to management, and complete reams of assessment based on guesswork? The whole system is an insult to intelligence as well as a denial of professionalism.
Why does no one talk about coastal schools? Higher PP, Higher deprivation due to seasonal work, Lower entrance into universities, Lower teacher recruitment, Lower teacher retention. I am researching exactly this so any ideas why they're being ignored would be a help.
Schools having distinct cultures and approaches is a good thing. Being open and honest about the way "we do things" is a good thing. So long as you aren't saying "everyone needs to do it this way", it's a good thing.
Kids on the last day: Miss!! It’s the last day we can’t do work!! Don’t be so mean, put a Christmas film on!! Also kids on the last day: Cba being here tbh we’re only watching movies I can do that at home this is pointless…
If you’ve got children, you need to watch Swiped – and see how sick their phones are making them | Simon Jenkins | The Guardian theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
My memory is so weird bc my y13s, who I have taught since they were in y10, I will remember what mark they got and what they wrote about in an essay they did 4yrs ago yet I cannot remember what I did 5 mins ago or why I walked in to the kitchen….
I keep showing my kids the movies I watched as a kid and realizing OH MY GOD none of the movies I watched as a kid are kids movies At. All.
I’ve spent today making a ‘key extract’ booklet for ‘A Christmas Carol’, designed for those students who struggle to read the text more than once. Sharing in case it’s useful to others. PDF & editable Word versions included. Help yourselves! @Team_English1 dropbox.com/sh/mi8qpy583dr…
It's progress 8 day! On the left, schools with over 30% pupil premium, ranked by the P8 of their pupil premium students. On the right, a chart showing the overall effect of increasing PP numbers on a school's P8. Firm takes are hard to make, but it's pretty striking.
I don't know who needs to know this, but interest is piqued (pricked), not peaked, and if you praise something you are lauding it (from laudare - to praise), not lording it. This PSA was brought to you by the correct usage of antiquated language association.
This is fascinating. Such a clever poem about Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. tumblr.com/two-bees-poetr…
Our department is considering a text change at GCSE - looking to move to a female writer in the modern drama section that would replace An Inspector Calls. What do people recommend?
Team English! Does anyone have the 2024 AQA Language Paper 1 standardising booklet they could send me? Thank you!!
people who say Shakespeare is boring have obviously never experienced the glory that is Harold Perrinneau's Mercutio
Teacher union members…advice please! We’ve been timetabled to invigilate mock exams. We are freed up at those times, but to me, that’s irrelevant. Invigilating is not a teaching task. It’s against union guidance isn’t it?
Hi! Does anyone have a spreadsheet with 2024 grade boundaries for the language paper? TIA 😊
I think we have a big problem around representation. All too often, teachers - and I mean teachers - don't get a seat at the big boys' table. Here are some potentially spicy, but imo reasonable, steps to take: >
