This is NOT party political. The London Assembly UNANIMOUSLY voted for a resolution to establish a “fully independent review of floating bus stops” in September 2024. Previously the Labour Chair of its Transport Committee had asked the mayor to pause their rollout.
Floating bus stops in London are a real risk for the safety of those alighting on buses. When pressed by @emmabest22 about what he planned to do about this, Sadiq Khan just couldn't answer 👇

Thank you. This is what happened last year. There were 5 collision injuries reported to the police last year in this location. 3 which we filmed and 2 from other people who reported them.
WARNING We've been filming the chaotic & downright dangerous situation at the Westminster Bridge floating bus stop at St Thomas' hospital. Clip includes a speeding cyclist crashing into an elderly person. These designs are not safe & they need to be urgently halted @Mark_J_Harper
.@willnorman @SebDance @MayorofLondon are you going to explain this please?
.@BBCLondonNews @itvlondon @journotommagill @myldn @Londonist @LonTravelWatch @MetroUK Only 3 arms of the South Circular & Brixton Hill Junction have pedestrian crossings shown in the Streatham Hill Scheme plan. What about the 4th arm? @MayorofLondon @TfL content.tfl.gov.uk/a23-streatham-…
.@simonlightwood Everyone deserves safe, accessible transport. 🤔
‘The tragedy is that visually impaired people are ending up at the bottom of the pile & are designed out of the environment’ Andrews words about a pavement-less bus stop on the new Lea Bridge Road cycle lane in London. @LouHaigh @simonlightwood we need urgent help on this issue.
Can London raise the money for our own transport projects? How, how much, and what are the risks? A timely investigation by the London Assembly starting tomorrow at 10am
Tomorrow #AssemblyBudget will question experts and @TfL on the potential funding options for the proposed Bakerloo line extension, and other new and future capital projects. Find out more: london.gov.uk/who-we-are/wha…
.@Heidi_Labour @LordPeterHendy @simonlightwood another floating bus stop that is not safe or accessible for blind people. It needs to be removed please. Pedestrians and bus users need their pavements and bus stops back please. @CamdenCouncil @NewJournal
Routing cycle lanes on the pavement at bus stops has to stop. Floating bus stops / bus stop bypasses are not safe or accessible for blind people. Access has to be from the kerbside without having to cross or step into a cycle lane first. This is in Camden close to St Pancras Int.
Keep posting different designs of floating bus stops & still the same issues. This one is in Mile End in London. @simonlightwood @Heidi_Labour @LordPeterHendy how much longer do blind people have to wait to get their bus services back? Please pause any more floating bus stops.
Hey @MayorofLondon @Heidi_Labour @simonlightwood, you might want to read how you are excluding blind people from the bus network in London and across the UK with your un-evidenced policies around floating bus stops. Disabled people have the right to independent travel!
Buses provide a vital service to blind and partially sighted people in getting to work, attending healthcare appointments, completing education, and being part of communities. Read our #AllAboard report on Navigating bus travel with sight loss: rnib.in/bus-report
Admirable @SteveReedMP - but without an actual plan for what it entails, this feels a little like an empty gesture. #streatham deserves better public transport, but @tfl seem determined to give us bikes lanes. Please share the detailed plan for your campaign
Let’s bring the London Overground to Streatham‼️ Join my campaign👇🏼 🔗shorturl.at/eU57d
If you think this should all stop and everyone should be able to access their bus directly to and from the kerb then write to your MP.
.@LabourMarina @Heidi_Labour be grateful if you could urgently ask about this junction please. I did ask @TfL representatives on a street meeting on 20th June in Streatham but no answers. This is critically important for pedestrians who want to cross the road in this location.

London is not accessible to all and blind have seen access to bus services go backwards over the past 10 years. Plus it is getting worse. How can it be Tesfai is going to loose access to his local bus services with this new scheme for Streatham Hill? @MayorofLondon @Heidi_Labour
Blind Lambeth resident raises concerns over the planned floating bus stops in the Streatham Hill scheme & asks @clairekholland to halt it. He says he was never consulted on it. @Keir_Starmer @LordPeterHendy @LordBlunkett @SteveReedMP can you help please (warning collisions shown)
All the charities representing blind people in the Uk and 290 other groups are calling for a halt to more stops like this. Claims about cycle safety don’t cut it - 80% of cycling injuries are at intersections. Very few are associated with bus stops.
Dear @Heidi_Labour,@simonlightwood, @LilianGreenwood,@LordPeterHendy, How can blind people, who can neither see nor hear cycles against the background noise, safely & in comfort cross the bike track at Westminster Bridge bus stop with cycles that mostly won’t slow let alone stop?
Please watch this ….. Pedestrians are top of the hierarchy… The most vulnerable…. Weaving in and out of them is wrong. The blind and disabled are being put at risk. I’m sure my fellow cyclists will agree this should not be happening The speed and reckless cycling here is…
Here’s the Government’s response to blind MP, @MarshadeCordova seeking assurance that floating bus stops will be safe for all bus passengers. Not a difficult question, but @Heidi_Labour tells MPs she wants to deal with this vital issue “in the round”!
Thank you @MarshadeCordova for asking this question. It’s clear floating bus stops do not work. No amount of reports will change this. They all need to be urgently halted please. x.com/nfbuk/status/1…
We need an immediate halt on any more floating bus stops @Keir_Starmer. Blind people are being excluded from catching the bus due to these designs which are still being put in. @NFBUK have no faith in @transportgovuk to tackle this @Heidi_Labour @simonlightwood @LordPeterHendy.
This is not just a "bus stop bypass", this is a morality bypass, planned by delinquents.
