AI & Gerophysics to understand Aging. 🇸🇬 Rethinking the Fundamentals of Aging & Rejuvenation Biology @TTIScience 🇺🇸
Awesome to see AI helping us to understand CFS better.
Super excited that our landmark @NatureMedicine paper on ME/CFS is out! 🎉 This was years in the making & only made possible because of AI! Big implications for clinical translation, therapeutics. Will do deep-dive thread later today, stay tuned. Grateful to the whole team!🙌
Hintons work on ANNs has been ground breaking - most people wouldn’t have thought that LLM level intelligence will be achieved so soon. So he defied the naysayers. It would be beautiful if he would keep this spirit while we are working on developing medicines to defy death.
Geoffrey Hinton says LLMs are immortal. Destroy the hardware, save the weights. Rebuild them later, and “the very same being comes back to life.” But humans don't work that way. We're bound to our substrate. Not even Kurzweil gets a backup.
The current state of the Longevity field! Healthspanners secretly are praying for real Longevity - a long live - but are also responsible that bold lifespan research and the promise of true lifespan extension is sacrificed for the health-span narrative.

Great success for biotech. Next goal is to prevent aging.
Lets freaking go: The first 100% effective HIV prevention drug is approved and going global The FDA has approved the first long-acting injectable for HIV prevention: Lenacapavir. Just two injections per year offer protection as effective as daily PrEP pills—marking a turning…
One of the most interesting things is that psychedelics actually have an effect (hence illegal 🙄) and the biology is understood better than for most drugs. Compared to longevity where we have 0 proof that any drug extends human lifespan, and we don’t even have the target.
Psychedelics used to be so edgy to talk about. Now, federal tax $ is used to study their effects in mice & there are human clinical trials completed & ongoing. People are discussing psilocybin for longevity. MDMA & ibogaine likely to gain FDA approval soon. Things. Have. Changed.
The ITP - is currently the gold standard. However, it’s also stuck and how relevant it is to advance human lifespan is questionable. What’s needed are: 1.) A fast pipeline that allows testing drugs in more complex animals like dogs & primates 2.) A Human version of the ITP
The ITP is one of the top programs for testing the life-extension effects of different supplements and pharmaceuticals on mice Out of dozens of compounds tested, here are the ones they've seen to work: 1. Acarbose 2. Aspirin 3. Rapamycin 4. Glycine 5. Canagliflozin 6. Captopril…
What are the coolest scientific relics? What’s the “Shroud of Turin” of the science world?
Congrats to the @ResearchHub team. A sincere project, that cares about scientists in DeSci is rare so great to see them be recognized. Keep in mind most DeSci projects use science as camouflage to do financial crypto acrobatics - without benefit to science or the “mission”.

The summer schools at Les Houches are a magnificent tradition. I was honored to lecture there in 2023, and my notes now are published as "Ambitions for theory in the physics of life." scipost.org/SciPostPhysLec…
The Physics of Aging - Gerophysics - is gaining wider interest amongst the aging biology community. But where should articles on Gerophysics be published? To solve this @fedichev , @jangruber467, Andrew Rutenberg, @BKennedy_aging and I teamed up with npj Aging on a new…

Psilocybin shows potential as an anti-aging molecule, with lifespan-enhancing results in human cells and mice observed in a new study. In vitro, psilocin (psilocybin’s metabolite) extended cellular lifespan by 29% at baseline and 57% at higher doses. It also reduced markers of…
As you know I'm obsessed with power laws in biology, which is a biological consequence of fundamental principles, like energy conservation from the first law of thermodynamics. Geoffrey West showed how highly optimized biological networks—think blood vessels or respiratory…
Id like to see an academic department run in this fashion for a few years - just as a comparison of different models.
Andrej Karpathy explains Elon Musk’s unique management style
Life extension 101.
You're not really a life extension advocate if you're telling people to avoid living life so they can live a few years longer. Proper life extension will confer unlimited healthspan and the ability to drink, party, enjoy yourself, and live youthfully, forever.
There’s this crowd of nostalgic tech people that admire old computers and play computer games. Let’s see if in 30 years people will also be nostalgic and use the early LLMs just as a hobby, and will gleefully talk about how retarded they were compared to the future versions.
iEmbryo
When I think about the long term, I would like embryo gene editing to be as popular as the iPhone. It's going to be affordable to most families. So we will see the majority of babies born having gene editing, because doing so will make them healthy.
The folks who are working in the field of longevity will be the first to know and the first to have access to medicines to extend healthy lifespan. It’s an advantage especially late in life.
