Useful infographic on where indirects (Facilities & Administration costs) go: cogr.edu/sites/default/… I've seen claims on here that '60% is taken out of the grant'. Not true - indirects are on top, 60% rate =~37% overhead. These costs are essential to biomed research.
Good to see a rapid (temporary) legal ruling on the NIH indirect issue: thehill.com/policy/healthc…
NIH is legally prohibited by the Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2024 from changing indirect-cost rates across the board without the approval of Congress. This will be immediately challenged in court.
Last year, $9B of the $35B that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) granted for research was used for administrative overhead, what is known as “indirect costs.” Today, NIH lowered the maximum indirect cost rate research institutions can charge the government to 15%, above…
Beautifully put, @DrNeuroChic
Hi, it’s nice to meet you. I am a #brain scientist. My life's mission is to prevent #Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias...or to contribute enough puzzle pieces so that someone else can unlock the mysteries of disease. I might take a day off, but if I’m being honest, maybe…
Valuable perspective on the NIH indirect cost question: nytimes.com/2025/02/07/us/…
This is a list of blockbuster drugs in 2024. Guess how many can trace their origins to NIH funded research? All of them.
Trump's proposal is ILLEGAL & amounts to an indiscriminate funding cut for research centers of all sizes, NOT just Ivies. It will mean shuttering labs across the country, layoffs in red & blue states, & derailing lifesaving research on everything from cancer to opioid addiction.

Is this for real? All NIH indirect costs cut to 15%. This would threaten most medical schools and academic hospitals across the US. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/n…
