Somewhat later than intended this morning, here's a great favourite of mine: "Sally" by Albert Turpin from c.1927. "Sally" was Albert's wife, Sarah Jane, which may explain the intensity of the portrait. I've also attached a quote from Albert which makes for interesting reading.
Here's another "cooling" image which I hope might help during this spell of hot weather. This is "Alpine Love" by John Cooper from 1930. It is in the collection at Manchester City Art Gallery @mcrartgallery. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup

So, a government that ignores its own Ombudsman is to appoint one for the water industry. How ironic. Will #WASPI women be able to make a complaint about the shocking pre-Christmas ton of sewage dumped on them by the @UKLabour govt? @WASPI_Campaign
This week marked the start of Labour’s water revolution. We will clean up our rivers, lakes and seas for good.
Lord Sikka reminds parliament that using the same formula that Ofwat had used to calculate the cost of nationalising the water industry "A £10,000 Robin Reliant bought in 1990 by Del Boy would now have a value of over £50,000". Ofwat calculate that @thameswater is currently…
The government fiction of £100bn cost of water public ownership explained as @GreenJennyJones and @premnsikka tag team in Lords. If you measure worth as value minus liabilities, these companies could be bought by the government for next to nothing. @Feargal_Sharkey
Good morning, Kathryn @KathrynRimming1 & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part. Yes, the Lea Navigation featured in several pieces of ELG work as here in "Brymay Wharf" by Walter Steggles, from his post-war work but based on the photo from Elwin Hawthorne's archives.
Thank you to @AmandaMartinMP @PompeyLabour @UKLabour for meeting #Portsmouth North #WASPI women yesterday. We confirmed that the @WASPI_Campaign legal challenge is going ahead. 10 years campaigning, still fighting for justice & #notgoingaway
Today would have been Grace Oscroft's birthday as she was born on 17th July 1903. Here's her painting of "Old Houses, Bow" from 1934. The building with the bay windows is at 223, Bow Road & it is still there to this day: built c.1750! Sadly, this is the only known photo of Grace
This is "Grove Hall Park, Bow" by Harold Steggles from 1933. It is available as a greeting card or Giclee print &, along with all our ranges of both products, they are currently on promotion with a 40% discount on all orders here:-eastlondongroup.co.uk #HaroldSteggles #sale
Yesterday, John @PaintingsLondon very kindly recommended our feed to all his followers so may I welcome all of our nearly 100 new followers: I hope you'll all enjoy seeing the Group's work & learning about them along the way . This is "Canal at Bow" by Walter Steggles from 1931
Not often you see a pigeon sponsored by a major footwear brand
Good morning, Kathryn @KathrynRimming1 & thank you. Yes, the image of the policeman with his helmet on indoors does seem very incongruous but Brynhild Parker has "form" in that regard, as you'll see in her painting of "Saloon Bar" from 1931. #BrynhildParker #EastLondonGroup
The idea of sitting indoors with one`s police helmet on is amusing.
This is "In Custody" by Brynhild Parker from 1932. It is in the collection @LeamSpaArtGall. #BrynhildParker #EastLondonGroup

Newspaper campaigns against wealth taxes continue - a whole article on a Minister ‘refusing to rule out’ something she could not talk about anyway because she is not the Chancellor announcing a budget bit.ly/4nLYAbB
Geraniums and Carnations, Eric Ravilious, 1938. It was painted at Wittersham, in #Kent. The original artwork is in the collection of @FryArtGallery.
Good morning, Annie @Thunderoad75 & thank you, as always. Sorry to hear that it is a little cloudy on the Isle of Dogs: hopefully it might mean that it is a bit cooler for you. Here's one that I often think has a "cool" feeling to it: "At Brighton" by Cecil Osborne from 1936.
Morning all from a slightly cloudy #IsleOfDogs. Low tide here but the river is busy as usual. Enjoy the sunshine in this painting courtesy of @EastLndonGroup and have a good day.
It looks like Torsten Bell is telling the environment to ‘get stuffed’ too… I bet that will work out well for you since famously constituents love to be told to get stuffed by their elected officials
